The Comptroller Hjlisequently visited New Orleans and discovered in th nllice of the Assistant Treasurer the. largest defalcation ever known in '.he history of the government. Tim fail urn of the First National Dank of New Orleans followed, and Mr. Knox ro niaiued for soma weeks in that city a- w aclins as Assistant treasurer. lie was r'appointed Comptroller without his knowh'd"n previous lo the exptra linn of his first term, and confirmed hy the Senate without reference lo any i . i committee. In three weeks fifty thousand voters will le called upon to choose lietween candidates for Congress, Supreme Judge and oMier minor offices. For what purpote do we want a representa tive in Consresst Manifestly to look generally after the interests of Oregon in that hranch of the general govern ment. Hence it is the part of good sense and good judgment on the part of voters to elect the man under the circumstances can do most good. A lietween Hon. John Myers and Birger Herman on the score of legislative ex perience, the advantage is all in favor of Mi. Myers, he having served two or three terms as Slate ' Senator from Clackamas county, while Mr. Herman has only served part of one term. In practical ability and good sound sense Mr. Myers is the superior of Mr. Herman, How well and faithful Mr. Myers will serve the people of Oregon in Congress way le seen when w state thnt at each election when he was e.ected Senator from Clackamas county he had a largo Republican majority to .a I I overcome. J5ut such wa trie aoiuing faith of the people of that county in his ability and integrity that without re gard to party they stood by him at the polls. Pro'iably the strongest reason why John Myers should be. elected is the fact that Oongres is now strongly Democratic- and will remain so for many years to ccme. If we Rend Her man lo Congeess he will be in the minority, and hence will not le aide to do anything f r us. Every one sees that Ourge is not doing anything tor Oregon, anil it is owing largely to the fact that he is not in harmony with the majority in Congress. Then let the peopl't without regard to party eieci ionestJohn Myers. Aioany demo crat. Librl Sail.
