Requiem.
The following lines written in memory of
the late Prof E E Ilurke were handed us for
publication by the Laurean Editor who did
not have space for them,
O child of sadness come not here
To drop the melancholy tear
Above my unremembered bier;
Go softly by,
Nor pause to learn my lowly name;
. Go view the haunt of evil fame,
And weep for sorrow weep for shame
Low let me lie.
() come not here In morn's bright hours
To deck my grave with hallowed flowers
That bloom In fair ambrosial bowers;
When soft wind sigh.
(In thou where ruthless Calumny
Provokes the blush of Purity
And plant the rose of Charity;
Low let me lie.
O come not here with lute and song
To charm away the ancient wrong
Or wake the memories that belong ,
To days gone by.
So cheer the living with thy lays
The early dew has passed away,
Perform thy Uk while yet 'tis day.
Low let me lie.
Come not to vex my placid bed
With sounding praise of the dead;
O let my weary, weary head
Rest tranquilly.
Nor 1st dark envy's shafts be hurled;
My anch'rrs cast, my sails unfurled,
lklow the billows of the world
lx.w lrt me lie.
Died.
