ing will he erected on the west shore of
of tha lake for the pumping machinery,'
from which a 13 inch pipe will extend
into the lake a hundred yards or more,
taking the water sixteen feet Wow tha'
surface. The pumping capacity will la'
1,500,000 gallons daily. Tho . water
will be forced from the lake to a reser
voir of 5,000,000 gallons capacity, built
midway letwoea the sound and lake at'
an elevation above tho tea ot 313 feet,
which will itipply a greater part of (ha
city's present population, but In order
to iupp!y all, an angina will ha placed
at the reservoir and made to pump into
another reservoir 423 feet high, located
on the Kenton track, where the great
est altitude within the limits of the city
is to be obtained. 8owe $83,000 was
expended last Summer in utilising
apring on the side hills in tha southern
part of town, and in six, eight, ten and
twelve inch iron pipes loading to various-
parts of town, but tha supply was
found inadequate.

Chinese presented the fire department
with the sum of $300and a gold medal
to the chief.
Twenty four men were discharged
from tha railroad shops, says tha Toco--
ma Ledger, in consequence of an order
received from W. T. Small, assiatant
superintendent of machinery and mo
tiva power for the western division.
Only forty-five men ara now employed
at the shops.
Mr. Sohucy, an employe of BenJ
Detrain, of Filot Rook, waa found
lying in the road between that plaoe
and Pendleton on Monday with his lrg
broken, says the Walla Walla Union,
Schuey says that he went to put tho
break on his wagon when his foot
slippep, throwing him from the wagon.
The Indian school on the Puyallup
reservation is in a flourishing condit
ion. It now has an enrollment of
sixty-five pupils, all of whom ara mak
ing fair progress in their ntudiea. Wisa,
Susie Banders has Wu employed as aa-.
sistant teacher in place of Mr. O. W.
Dell, who was forced to reaign on ac
count of ill health.'
