Irtirt of Prom I if. Portland Sunday Welcome. Mum Clam M. Wood, awtnr inlaw of O.J. Cur! is and ticket agent of the 0. nd 0. Railroad at. East Portland, y Iter attorneys Sears; and McGinn, on the 8th iruit. served pajwrs on Dr. 0. It, ttovls, ho a pidnt of The Dalle., in a suit for liiriU'ii of prowine, fiUcing IW dainngoa at $10,000. Miwt Wood' Hlorjr U to ttie itTi-tt that Pr. X)aria fins Un pngacfd to at hast nine different young ladi, at onn time or another in this nwglihorliood. fchf ha twice purehawif her trownao, and twice rWfl (fi"!apytoinlHl ly the Doctor, Last April he aeftt hr to San Fraicinco, and tflett on Home pretext hroke off tho en ftgenienl, but on her return the fronlle was made up and the wedding txed for the lOtli of Hayher other day of marriage lieing the 10th of this month. While the Doctor was away fn the hiteriui Miss Wood met Minn Lizzie Meagher, who liki herself was wearing an engagement ring presented ty Dr. Davis; and on comparing notes ft was found that ho had plighted his froth to them loth. Letters wrre then Compared, which were identical in sen timent and almost identical in verhi age, A light dawned upon them loth the furtive doctor had two strings to his tow. Among others said to have fallen victims to this medicnl masher's charms are the daughter of a Front street hoarding house keeper, a Miss Fitzgerald of the Dalles, and the daughter of an East Portland widow. Evidently fearing that he would lose na or the other objects of his devotion fie sent to this city two letters; one to Alias Wood announcing that he would be here on the 8th and the other to Miss Meagher saying he would come to Portland on the lOtli Thesu letters will lie the, chief ammunition of the plaintiff. Miss Wood sayt sho has ex examined tho record, and finding that Dr. Davis is worth $30,000, she is de termined to have pecuniary lialiu fur her lacerated heart in the amount of 110,000. Miss Wood is also quite un complimentary in her opinion of the doctor's ability as a practitioner, saying he had no practice in East Portland and had to go East of the Mountains to get anything to da She further says that nearly all the girls that he haa been attentive to are sickly, owing to his forcing his treatment upon them. On the other hand Dr. Davis says that he has never heen engaged but to the two whose hitters an referred toahove, and that the only bad feature of the wholo affair is the fart that ho was en gaged to two at once fearing that Miss Wood might discard him at the last moment, he was determined to have some one to fall bnck upon. It was not a case of inability on his part of being off with his old love before he was on with his new onn. He says he came to Portland from The Dalles on .the 7th, according to promiso, and that ".his sister there had prepared a home, 'to which he hoped to take his bride Fifteen minutes after his arrival here he was in the company of Miss Wood, who lives on this side of the river, and Its had hardly had time to notice her coolness when he was served with the fapers in this case. Then, and once incv he tried to get Miss Wood to withdraw the suit, offering to marry ;fcer, and thus avoid all expense, and graUioity, but she was determined to lave money and would listou to no overtures of peace. Tho Doctor fur fther says that at tho first interview n direct proposition to scttln was mndo 4o him, but as ho wanted to marry "Hiss Wood he would not ngreo to it. lie was then threatened with all kinds of terrible things, onn lieing a charge of murder, and exposure of his amours; tut the Doctor, knowing bis inn icence, md being perfectly willing to perform Lis part of tho con t met by marrying Cke pUiutifT who sues him for not mar tying her, he would listen to no settle aoent thai did not include her hand in wedlock. These are the stories in brief s told by both Miss Wood and Doctor Davis, but the argument we leave to the lawyer!
