It is probably for tunate for the Chinese here that no more succeeded in getting in before the restriction bill came in force. There appears to be more here now than there is any need )f. The N. P. R. R. Co. have all they want on their lilies in course of construction, and will em ploy no more. The Oregon Construction Company, who have also been hiring large numbers, have now all they need. From good authority it is learned that there are uow 5,000 Chinese in and around the city who want employment. Many of these haye come up from the fi dieries, and the prospect is that the number will keep in oreasing. The wages of wood sawyers will probably soon take a tumble, and in a short time all the street work will fall in the hands of ti.e Chinese. It is reported that Chinese will also be employed as drivers on the street cars, which i not unlikely to happen. Portland Standard. Firemen's Meeting.
