The Iiosiiburg Independent gives
the following particulars of the acci
dental death of Woodson Fattcrson of
Douglas county:
It would seem from the statement
of an rye witness, Mr. II. O. Waters,
who vwitcd tho scene of tho accident,
that Woodson had tied two deer on his
saddle, bno on the seat and one Whind.
The ono behind evidently got loom,
and fulling scared the horse, which be-
n to buck, jerking Patterson around
in such a manner as to kick him in the
forehead, smashing in the skull from
which tho brain oozed out Whihi
kicking ho struck the hammer of the
gun, breaking it oir in the stock and
exploding the cartridge, and in running
lomo cut himself on tho leg by striking
it on a snag in the road to which place
io was traced by tho blood.

Italian economists bewail the waste
of money on the now man-of-war Italia.
She is to be provided with 4 100-ton
guns, as well aa several miltraileuses,
and the greater part of the money
spent for the cajinon and machinery
goes to England. American econo
mists have no need to cry out against
the extravagance of Secretary Thomp-

son. ile has adopted a radically uu
ercnt plan. He has saved over $8,-
0,0,000 from his appropriations and
tas allowed the navy to go to the dogs.
Regard.xl from the point of national
pride the Italian method seems bctte '.
With a good navy, at least, this coun
try might save itself from the humilia
tion of Iming bullied by a fifth rate
power, like Spain, or a power of no
rato whatever, like Chile,
B. B. Redding, of California State
Fish Commission, says that an attempt
will be made to introduce tho , Gour-
rnami fish into this country, placing
the young ones, if successful in briiyj
ing them here, in the rivers in the
southern part of California. No at
tempt has ever yet been made to bring
them to Ameriira but frequent oues
have been madn to bring them t Eu
rone, but without success. They will
be shipped from Sago, Cochin China.
Tim fish is described as havin2 a most
delicate flavor, and in every respect
desirable food fish. It resemble the
carp in apjsjarance.

A few days ago, a handsome woman

a stone attached to his neck. The wom
