On last Saturday quite a crowd assembled at the east end of Skinner's Bntte to witne.4 the pigeon shooting match between Dr. Os borne and Frank Belshaw. The trap nscd was a common open box placed 21 yards dis tant Dr. Osborne won the choice of shot aid killed his first bird. Mr. Belshaw was not so fortunate tiie bird escaping. The contestants shot alternately the Dr. killing 6 more birds and one which conld not be counted as it fell outside the 80 yard bounds. Mr. Belshaw killed only one bird bringing that down on his fourth shot. With the asventh shot Mr. Belshaw's backers gave up the match as it was then impossible for them t win. The score stood 6 birds and 1 which fell out of bounds, for Dr. Osborne, and 1 bird fer Mr. Belshaw. Dr. Osborne has proved himself au excellent shut. Pardokkd. Governor Thayer recently ettended executive clemency to VT H Craw ford, convicted of robbing the railread safe at the depot in this city, aud sentenced at the April term of court 1879. to five years J imprisonment in the peniteutiary. The Ore goaiaa says that tha pardon it granted by reason of "extreme youth, doubt as to com mission of the crime, and on condition that be leave the State and not return during the perion for which he waa rtnteuced." The reasons advanced by the Governor are not satisfactory. Crawford was a fully matured man, probably 30 years of age, and there Cenld be no doubt that be committed the Crime fer which he was incarcerated. Aocidestally SHor. A lad by the name of Baxter wu accidentally shot at the Bel knap 8prings on the McKenzie last Sou Jay, by a companion. The ball from the rifle passed through his left leg about fonr inches above the knee, inflicting paiiful bat not dangerous wonnd. It ia not thought that the bone was touched. Knox and Samuel Dillard iuteud shortly te build themselves resi dences. During the past week business has been exceedingly good. The prospects are that it will continue so for some time. Max Chrisman returned here to-day after an absence of about a year, east uf the menu tains. He looks the sains as ever. k. small blare was discovered in the stove pipe of the tin store of W. L. Snodgrass. A few buckets of water quenched the Amies. We have hail only about iOdrummershere this week, aud expect to see about the same amount next week. "No rest for the weary." The coming election promises to be very exciting. There are only six candidates for constable, and probably a few more will join in on the race. Mr. Scott Chrisman is at present putting up a very flue residence ou Secoud street. He has a large force of carpenters at work, and judging from aniiearauces, it will be a handsome structure in every particular, Next Friday evening there will be a pri vate soiree by the Migonetto Social Club, Your correspondents are in receipt of au in vitation, and we think this party will sur pass any giveu here before. Dr J C Gray, dentist of this place, has rented the front part of the photograph gal lery, and is doing a splendid busiuess. The Dr. has many friends iu this place and vi cinity, and guarantees all bis work to give eutire satisfaction. .. ' The Cottage Grove hotel, H C Walker proprietor, has been thoroughly cleaned aud refurnished, and is considered one of the best hotels this side of Portland. Mr Walker does all in his power towards the comfort of his patrons, and intends ia the future to keep it strictly on a first class plan. The Arcade String Band, composing the following gentlemen, Sam Veatcb, 1st violin, Frank Ham brie 2d violin, H C Walker, violiucello, A L Hexter clarionet, J C Wal lace Jr cornet, are getting along very nicely. The band has not been in existence very long, but judging from their playing now, they will surely become good musicians. Dot and Joit. Belknap's Sprins. Mr. O. Brownson has leased the Belkuap Springs on the McKenzie river, and is now prepared to receive visitors. Ibeee springs, aro famed for the medicinal properties of the , ., .. . , . . , . I water, aud as they areaituated in the midst f beautiful scenery, and fine hunting, and filling ground, promise to become a Doted resort. The springs are situated 62 miles east of Eugene, and C miles from the Mc Kenzie Bridge. Stockholders Meeting.
