THE EUGENE CITr GUARD. KUWNE CITr.ORKUON. ttA'XUKUAY. AUO.B3, 16. flrtjoi'i Exhibit al the Mrchanlci' Institute San Francisco. Tbe Oregon cxliibit, nty tlie San 'Francioo Chronicle, which cofitriti of 1 a o'llcolion of curn!, native woodi, ' Vild grasitu, vgclallr and H uum "ber of mineral produoli "Which have be n carefully selected itui arranged under the superviaioa ot I'. Suhulze, Land Coinminaionsr 6f lit Oregon nd California Railroad. The dis plav of wooJi was contributed by the Oregon Furniuirv Manufacturing Company, and complies alder, laurel, ak, maple, spruce, myrtle, cedar, ash and fir, the latter ie which it com monly but erroneously known at Oregon pine. The exhibit contains about aeventy varieties of wild grasi i, the average height ef wlich in about sic-feet. One specimen haa at tained the enormous growth ot eight feet vid a 'half. All ot these gr asci abound in the Willamette and Ump ju valleys and are highly nntiitious for tlie purpotua of lorajju. Several fine ipeciminea of flat in the collec tion are ef excellent quality, ilia fibre being atrong and fino and of a pecu liar silky glosa. The collection also embraces contribution from a large number ef anlmou canncrie on the Columbia river, and some lino sum pies of wool collected from the aheep raiaing districts of the S'ate, the cli mate of the Willamette valley being peculiarly adapted to this line of in dustry. Some samples of pig iron from the Oswego Iron works, in Clackamas county, hays been declar ed by experts to be superior to the imported article The display of wheat, which is the staple product of Oregon, is one which the State may feel proud. There are a large number f varieties, embracing both Winter j - i .. ana spriDg wneat, tne most noticeable and attractive display bring Unit Gee-rge Belshaw ot Luih county This branch ot industry has reached such perfection iu the webfoot State that Oregon wheat now commands better price in Liverpool than the California article. Among other in teresling preduots from this growin Stale now on exhibition at the Fair mar be mentioned several tins sam pies ot fish oils, specimen of sand stone, granite, baalt, and some mam moth blocks of Coos Hay coal. This exhibit has a tendency to give one better idea ef the rapid strides which our sister Slate it making in agricu tural industry and commercial pros perity than a whole volume ol book upon the subject. Ill Hypocrisy. The worst thing about the Hayes Administration the Philadelphia Times declares, is its hypoonsy: This is exemplified now even more than it . was last year by the manner in wide ' the political assessment business is carried on. The President makes Vl semi-oflieiftl announcement evrry day or two of his ngij adherence to h Civil Service Reform principles, but the members of the Cabinet t.p th wink to the Republican Congression al Cainpiign Committee, and then go off en an inspection of something or other for recreation, while the iin porlunate assciMiri descend upon th poor Department cleikt like th plague ot Iocu its. A corresponden says it it noticeable that "there is Kind oi suu rosa air about the pro. eeedings of those wl:o have under taken to collect the 'voluntary con inouuons mat. suggests tonscious- nest on their psrt of the quesliouabl legitimacy of the work." The colieo tor simply steps up to a desk and whispers in the confidential ear of th clerk that . II the others aro subscrih ing and hints that ho had Utter do. the tame if he knows what is good for biro. There tre few who have tit moral courage to reluse, considering n is Ohio election that is to bo car ried and that the fortunes of the Ad minittratioa vtodidate tor the Pre eooy are at stake. On the wl ole, lot 014 "aland and deliver" method ot political assessments is belter than tb't sneak thitf process. The Grant people bull d.icd the clerks, but they did not do it in a mean way. The mask worn by the Administration bad better be thrown off, it does not cooeeal Us repulsive visage. Our exchanges, under date of the 5th, give the fol lowing: The Courier-Journal has unofficial and definite returns from fifty coun ties which show about one third fall- i g off in tho aggregate vote, but about the usual Democratic majority, The Hepublioans have made legisla tive gains; but tbe genera assembly, that two years ago was 115 Demo cratiu majority on joint ballot, con l.ione.H Democratic over 100. Black burn's majority for Governor is vari ously entimnted at from 20.000 to 40,000. Tho vote recommending call for a constitutional convention, though supported by both parties, has und)ubtcdly failed of the required constitutional majority. The eleciion was unusually quiet all over the State, no serious difficulty being reported Tho Greenbackers have certainly elected two members of the lower house of the legislature, but their ag gregate vote is insignificant. In this county Blackburn gets 6,981, Evans, 4,049. Al the last gubernatorial race McCrearv, Democrat, eteived 9,700; Harlan, Ki p., 7,400. Gov. Bishop says that the Ohio election will be close, but lie has res sun to be ieve that Ewinz will bo elected. Respectfully, DANA S. HA YKS, State Asuayer for Massachusetts. Si. Louw, Missouri, September 30, 1876. G. Simmonds, Eso, I have been using your Nabob Whisky for some time, and have no hesi tation iu saying that it is, without exception, the purest article that I have nsed either medicinally or for family purposes. To many of my patients who have been suffering with indi gestion and nervou i affections, I have prescribed your Nabob Whisky for their use, and I tak pleasure in saying to you the effect has been most satisfactory. Please send me by exores iir cases; also a sample case C. O. D. and oblige, yours truly, IL C. LOUDERBACK, M. D. So long as there are ills to which flesh is heir to, and th case's and labors of life breed diseases so long will it be necessary to ue medicine to counteract the evil produced and maintain the health of the human family, Many kindB of medicines are tretiuently offered to the public for one social disease and another, aud if the truth were known it would doubtless be found that in the majority of cases these nostrums have done far more harm than good. Indeed some of th greatest evils of the present day is the existence of quack compounds which contain ingredient mimicable to health.and the greatest aire, therefore, should be taken by invalids, in using many unknown drugs which cannot be taken with impunity, no matter what may be a legend to th contrary. Now, experience has shown that Nabob Whisky is one of the best medicinal pre parations known, ami is ingliiy recoinmenaeu Dy tne j) acuity tor all cases of nervousness, weak ness, debility, dypciia, indigestion, etc. Its popularity throughout the Emtern States haj been great; and it comes to the Pacific Coast endorsed by the certificates of Dr. 8. Dan Haves cates are most dtrect in their statements, averring that the Nabob Whisky is, without excep tion, the purest article that can be used either medicinally or for indigestion and nervaus affec tions, analysis shows that this whisky is of standard alcoholic strength, and free from flavnrinr i" . n, .1. .1.... ..:,, .,,K.f., n. u t...i oils, acids, metals, or other deleterious substances. Dr. Hayes further savs that it ia rmr. of superior quality, and suitable for dit tic and medicinal purposes. Such recommendations are the strongest that call be furnished, and as there are thunsands of letters testifying to the merits of the Whisky as a family remedy and tonic, no further proof of its excellence need be given.
