Underwood, aa Poatal Agent, aame two years ago, a registered package aent from Myrtle Creek, to Hermausvillo, ' Oregon, was lost Mr. Underwood wsnt to ! the place, and for several daya investigated the affair, with the only remit tbat he waa convinced of the integrity of the postraatter, Mr. Gabbett, at Myrtle Creek. No trace of tha missing package could be found. Mr. Underwood, a few .days siuce, received a letter from Mr. Gabbett stating that be had received from the special agent of the Post Office Department of Chicago, a receipt for the package; it having been fouud in a mail pouch aent to Chicago for " repairs. Thus after a lapse of two years the mining matter came to light, two thousand miles from its point of departure and destination, and the good name of Mr. Gabbett ii left cloudless and above suspicion. The Siuslaw. The C001 Biy Newi aaya: Tba Siuslaw is navigable for vessels for 23 milea from it mouth, rood agricultural aims on each bank, with apleudid timber at and along the bead of navigation, and the country is rapidly aettling up with good in dustrious citizens. Plenty of good claims is yst to be had for the taking. A weekly mail route is badly needed up the coast aa far as the mouth of the river, aa there are nearly a hundred settlers on tha river with out any mail facilities whatever.
