Vhr Sblaa letirtd. osniitiv & co's War has commenced in Europe! i i 4 5 i The impreision ha gone abroad, cayi the Mamlara, iDrougn me mm licit oi a defeated candidate from Eastern Oregon, bclore the Democrat io Stato Convention, that Hon. A IL Brown bought Mr. J. Shinn, of Union connty, to withdraw from the contest for Secretary of State, aa eorninR from Kaitern Oregon might impair hie (Brown's) chancea of receiving tho nomination for Slate Treasurer. Mr. Brown informs us, most emphatically, that he never offered, never prominel to offer, nor never would have dared to insult Mr. Shinn with any offer of money, or anything else, to refuse to allow his name to come before the convention as candidate for Secre- , lary of State. On the contrary. Mr. ' Brown says, that J. M. Shepherd, the proprietor of a paper which lie threat ened to use against the Democracy nnlei paid handsomely was the per sod who claimed the credit of getting Mr. Shinn to retire from the contest. Be this ns it may, Mr. Shinn, i not a man of tho Shepherd strino, to be bought and sold like a beet, and hit retirement from a contest for nomina tion in the Democratic Convention, wai not through a purchase, but bo cause, like an honest man, he thought by to doing h would be serving the best interests of his party. Tho Multnomah Democrat a and anti-Mitchell Kepub'icvis have joined their political fortuma a id nominated a strong "citizens ticket." headed by ' J. B. Congle for State Senator. Mr. Conglo is an old Orcgonian, an lion orable, upright citizen, an 1 ii very popular among his acquaintances. The Uepresentativo ticket is about equally divided between Democrats and lio publicans, while tho Democrat have the Sheriff and the Republicans the Clerk. Tho Journal, after casually men tioning Mr. Pengra, Messrs. Cochran and Thompson, and Dr. Gill, comes dotjl to solid work this way: "We now cotne to the war horse of tho campaign, Kobcrt Pagan, Esq." Howley Milherol Moses! what next? The Custom Hons runner has caught another. Ho ices him to the tune of ihreo dqllart and a half a day until after the election, Any more in tht:.nrkct? Citation.
