The annual moeting of the Bible Society for Lane county was held in the Brick Church on lust Sunday ercuiiu:, There was a good attendance, and the usual amount of business transacted. Rev. P. G, Hetzler, Bible Agent for Oregon, Washing ton aud Idaho Territories, delivered a lecture of about a half an hour long, which was any. tiling but entertaing. The subject matter was worthy of a well digested and carefully prepared lecture, just such a cue as the agent ought to deliver at any annual meeting. But the Reverend gentleman blundered through a half hour without saying anything worthy of note. His bad grammar, worse elocution, and thoughtless harangue, showed clear!) that he had not devoted any time in prepar nig. 1 lie speaker, by Ins loud talk, would indicate that tlie people of this place are all deaf, which ia not true, or that what ho lacked in good sound argument aud sense he was ' making up in harsh unpleasant noise. The Rev. gentle man draws a handsome salary of (1,800 per annum, aud certainly ought to spend time enough in preparing his lectures to give the people au intellectual treat, in place of dis charging a superabundance of footed wind with a noise as grating on nerves as the saw ing of boards with a dull buck snw.
