CITY AND COUNTY.
. A Nw Gamb. On Tuesday last there
'arrived tj the train from the eouth a very
lawe tntn arrayed in a claw-bammer-tailed
coat, and the usual accompaniments, an lin
mease hat, and about seventy pounds of gold
.watch od chain, sleeve buttons, and gold
Welded cane.' On bis appearance on tbe
itreet it was at once decided that he was
Henry Ward Beecher, and a rash was made
to the hotel register to verily the supposi
tion, liu the was registered as "Tbe Big
Bonanza," only. Ia the afternoon he ap
peared In a carriage on Peters' corner and
commencing to play on a banjo 'soon bad
quite a crowd gathered. Then be announced
that he was an advance agent for the "Col
orado Pon," and that the firm by which be
tr&g employed, advertised their goods by send
ing him ahead to distribute among the peo
ple of each town of Importance two or three
hundred' dollars. lie then showed bow he
was going to do it Drawing forth a box he
placed Id it a lot of envelopes, some contain
ing one dollar greenbacks, and some contain
ing five dollar gold notes. Then taking a
.fifty dollar gold note from his vest pocket be
jmt that in an envelope and pat it in the box.
jle then did the same with a one hundred
"dollar; apparently putting it in the box also.
According to his statement there was then
iin tbe box one hundred and thirty prizes
aad pne hundred blanks, nd he announced
that any person by paying one dollar or a
bbibf pens could draw an envelope from the
box, or by paying five dollars cosld draw
eight envelopes. I la was then ready for bu
siness and the crowd then "went for" . those
gold notes vigorously. . The passed np dol
lars' and, fives for an hour as fast he could
take tbem in. Tbe fifty dollar note and quite
a Dumber of five dollar notes came out.
Tbe five dollar notes were in almost every
instance re invested, and at tbe end of an
hour when that crowd began to compare
'notes it fonod its supply of the root of evil
' to bare largely diminished, and the number
pf envelopes in that box was still about tbe
-tame. The ''Bonanza" left next day, about
1 one hundred and fifty dollars ahead of the
'town. ' It is of little use to warn people
against this species of gambling; all classes
1 of people indulged in it even good, pious
' individuals who would faint at the thought
' of taking a band in a game of poker. When
i fie next sharper cocics look at the chances
tin his favor before you invest.

"near Crow postoffice, by ber horse getting
nwamped and falling with her into deep wa

"mere lad. With such pitfalls in the road,
''and such roads and such weather as we have
('had this winter, generally, no wonder the
'Long Tom postmasters are tender footed
and snarl at each other; and we are led to
1 believe that Job himself was not more pa
Uient than is Mr. Duncan.
. Kiqiit Watch, The Council last Mon

of exemplary habits, and we predict that be
will come as near giving general satisfaction
as any one could.

There are several reasons why this Mill should be
prelerred to all otheis: . , .. ;
1st. It Is far mure durable because It Is all
Iron.
2d. It is Cheaper because of its simplicity and
d'liability.and will out last several Wooden Mills
3d. It is Lesa Complicated, because thereisonly
three pieces uf operating machinery.
4th. It i more powerful than any other Mill,
on account ol the thin lan, and consequent in
creasdtt suction of air. and because it la operated
ly an eccentric, being far superior to the crans
haft or rest pin, as a lifting and fulling power.
4th. It needs no a:e, no watching, havl g
elMeeding oil cast and relr-rcgulating vanes.
It regulates, proteile ana UKes care oi ivseii.
dth. It nejer warps, shrinks, or swells, hence
it is not lia'rle to get out ol order. Uuce up, it
goes sll right,
7th. It d( more work, runs easier aud throws
a laiger bly of water. It will submerse a larger
tract of 'land, with less wind and in thb rter apace
of tine than any other Windmill now in ue. It
may be set to turn out of the wind at riy desired
