The worst storm known for years
was experienced up the North Santiam
Saturday. The , heavy rains swelled
the river to a torrent. It washed
away all the bridges on the river above
Laughead creek and imprisoned a
number of people on the south side of
the river, among whom were the school
teachers at Detroit and Berry. At
Niagara 450,000 feet of saw logs were
carried away. As the booms below at
Gates and Mill City were also carried
away, the logs were all lost. It is also
said that about 350,000 foot of logs
were lost at Gates. A work train
was sent up to repair the damages to
the track.
