That Oregon's exhibit is -well
worthy of the state is evident from
the following clippings:
" Chicago Evening Journal: A

measuses 9 inches and weighs -Impounds;
a ''Gloria -jVXun'dt" apple
weighing' 2 pounds, a cherry 3
inches in diameter, ami peaches
17i inches in circumference.
Chicago Tribune: In the horti
cultural building, Oregon, which
was the first state, in complete
readiness and which opened May i
1st., makes an exhibit which
should be seen by all. It is a
wonderful story of the resources of
"hat stale. Its plan of display is
remarkably artistic and shows its
many varieties of fruits in jar and
on plate to great advantage. In
all there are 400 plates of apples
that make the mouth water, and
2-10 immense jars of fruit in solu
tion. There are monster pears;
quinces, plums, peaches, apricots,
cherries and grapes, any one of
which, except the two latter, would
do for dessert for a medium-sized
family. There are G6 cases of
prunes, sun-dried apples, pears,
id urns, peaches and other fruits.
Chicago Inter Ocean: Sections
of the horticultural hall contain
fruits and vines, or more properly
speaking, tiie displays of the
bureau of viticulture and pom
ology. Of the latter Oregon, Cali
fornia, Utah and Nova Scotia have
exceedingly fine exhibits ready for
inspection. '
St. Louis Grocer: Oregon is
making a display of fruits at the
world's fair that will be viewed
with special interest by fruit-growers
and canners. In. the exhibit
ai pear n..ghii:g four pounds,
peaches as large as foot balls,
apples six inches in diameter,
plums larger than goose eggs, cher
ries that require half a dozen bites
fo dispose cf them and strawber-
lies as large as common apples.
Other abnormally largo fruits and
products of the soil are also exhib
ited. Oregon is the lirst state to
install an exhibit of pomol gy.
The fruits are inclosed in glass jars
of various sizes, and arranged with
a view to harmony of colors. The
space allotted to this slate is 50
lineal'feet against the wall and ;30
lineal feel of Table, space directly
opposite. This space will b" iilled
with ripe fruits in season, supplied
from Oregon by express. The jars
containing the fruits are of fanci
ful design, and will be arranged in
tiers upon a stand made of native
woods. Oregons' horticultural ex
hibit at Chicago is highly spoken
of on all hands.

The New York Evening Post,
while regretting that congress can
not be called together earlier than
September, nevertheless finds sat
isfaction in the observation that
when it does assemble President
Cleveland will be able to face it
vith arguments on the financial
situation Air more potent, than he
could have used at an earlier day.
That, is to s:iy, the demonstration
of oiu' financial,. follies is steadily
growing plainer, though we are
paving for the demonstration at
frightful cost. By September,
he re fore, the proof, through dis
tress of the co:i!.l ry. may be rig
orous enough to compel congress
to rational action. - -
The Evi::-;ng Post thinks we
shall not come cut of this "ex

nt holds it phin to "that in no

attention either to their own ex

if it be bygone and recorded in a
Look." Among the people and
in congress during vears past we
have had a very strong, body 6'
men who have been beyond the
reach of history and reason. To
quote the same paper again:
