The capacity of Eugene's w.iter
reservoir is being increased to 100,
000 gallons.
The Salem Light and Power Co.
has just received a new 5000
pound dynamo.

There is a great deal of unde

Salein boasted a prune cutting

fair. Monmouth has one 2 inches
longer.
E. W. Warner, a compositor on
the Oregon City Enterprise, cele
brated his 70lh birthday, 63 years
of which he has been setting type.
The Nehalem river is on a regu
lar bender, ejecting from its mouih
all sorts of debris, breaking booms
and carrying many logs to the sea.
A lot of McMinnville's young
bloods celebrated the return ot
spring the other night by demol
iseing a saloon and having a high
old time. lsTo arrests.
LaGrande now consumes 100,
000 gallons of water daily, and her
postal box rent has increased to
$7,000 a year. That's a healthy
report for LaGrande.
The Southern Pacific has com
menced fencing in its road. It
has 800 miles to fence in Marion
county alone. It costs $250 a
mile to do this fencing.
Stephen Bester was drowned in
Wilson river, Tillamook county
recently, while ferrying hay across
the stream. His son barely es
caped the same fate.
A man laid down on the track
this side ot Oregon City Satur
day night evidently for the pur
pose of being run over, but the
engineer saw him and stopped the
train. He was unknown.
The assessors at Portland passed ;
the following resolution: That the
records will not be resorted to for
the purpose of listing mortgage
notes for assessment, excepting
when tax payers refuse to give in
iheir property.
H. E. Cross, was fined $100 and
cost or 50 days' confinement in
our cosy cooler by Squire Fouts on
Friday, for throwing sawdust in
the CIacKama8 river. The de
lendant took an appeal to the
circuit court. Courier.
Albany's total debt, including
the expenditures for the bridjre
and sewers, is $90,843. Salem's
city indebtedness is nearly $200,
000, and on top of this is a school
debt of about $40,000. and still
Salem goes on growing.

Oregon's pew soldiers' home is
to be located at Koseburg. Some
of the Salem papers are making a
kick on this location, claiming
that it should according to law, be
placed in that city. Roseburg is
situated in a better climate than
the capital city, and the old vets
are fortunate in that respect.
Thirty-three hundred bushels of
wheat were shipped from theLeb
anon warehouse last week. The
warehouse received 62 cents per
bushel f. o. b., which nets the far
mer 541 cents per bushel. Much
rf this wheat was of the 1891 crop.
The are still about 20,000 bushels
in the warehouse.

Carrie Br.tdley, from Multnomah county.
12 years for manslaughter, June 21, 1882;
pardoned June 21, 188S. She w.is the
keeper of a house of ill fame oa third street
in Portland, and two of her girls, Dolly
Adams and Mollio Flippir, enticed an old
rancher from San vies, island to their room
in Carrie Bradley's house, aud intending to
put him to sleep to get his money, Dolly ave
him too much chloroform. When he was
found to be dead to keep the matter quiet
Carrie Bradley hired a hack and a couple of
men to take the body at night and throw it
in the ri-.er below Weidlers mill. The
body was not weighted well and came to
the surface. The Adams and Flippeu ;
women gave ihe matter away and turned
state's evidence against Miss Bradley, who
had fled the state. She was arrested in San
Francisco as site was yetting off the steamer
from Portland. She was tried and convict
ed as an accessory, while the ones who
gave the fatal dose went free. The hack
man and his helper got one year each.
Dolly Adams was some years afterward
burned to death in a fire in Tacoma, aud
Mollie Flippan aldo died from the effects of
a burning.
Lizzie Falds and Florence Fallon, from
Multuotnoh count', were the next, sen
tenced one year for robbery, May 13, 1887;
pardoned April 13, 1S8S.

Hazel Nelson, from Multnomah, one year
