USEFUL EfFOELVTIOX.
Tilbury Fox, M. D., the eminent medical wri
ter, In his work " Skin Diseases," thus account
for the pimples so common on the (ace and neck.
Eating too rich or too greasy food, or too hearty
eating while the excretory organs are sluggish,
causes in most people indigestion or a dyspepsial
condition, which causes the blood to move slug
gishly, which in turn enfeebles the pores. The
result Is, that the exuding secretions block in tha
pores, which inflame, cash distinct inSammar
t'on being a pimple. Dr. Fox therefore does
i-ot prescribe " blood purifiers" so called, but a
dyspepsia cure" to be teicen, to use his owl
words " till tin dyipcpaial tymptoms have ditap
ptand." The old iCca was, that face eruptions
were caused by a "humor in the blood," for
which they treated the blood, giving the mineral
potab. Uence the reason why the older sarsa
parillas contain potash. Joy's Vegetable Barsa
parilla follows the modern ideal of Dr. Fox, and
alms with gentle vegetable alteratives at the
tomach and digestive organs. The reason Is ap
parent why It cures dyspepsia and indigestion,
tod the pimples and skin eruptions which result
therefrom, and why sarsapariUas that use mln

SUBJECTED TO SOME QUESTIONING
A GAZETTE REPORTER' TALKS WiTHf Jt COR
VALLIS REAL ESTATE AOENTl
A representative of tire Gaz"KtTe had oc
casion to Arap into the real' estate office of
Ralston Cox, on northwest corner" of Monroe'
and Third streets, yesterday afternoon, ant
he was lucky in Vimling that gentleman:
at leisure long enough to furnish aftswers?
to some questions whicfr this1 scribe pot?
forth as follows:
"How many lots have you sold in JobV '
addition, and how many still rem'aln?'' was)
about the first.
"Since I had the tract platted, which" was
about the first of November, 129 lots haver
been sold to people residing in Corvallis
Albany, Eugeno and Portland'. To-day I
received a telegram from the latter city from
Mrs. Green Stating she would take block 29"
paying $900. I also have sold blocks 3. 4,
and 5, for $3. 600 to Spokane and Walla
Walla parties. Lots 3 and 4 irt block 23, to
B. F. Zeigler. for 200. In the whole tract
there are 320 lots, So you see there are 191
yet to b8old."
"Yon having been the prime mover in the?
street railway project, what have you to say
concerning the future work, Mr. Cox?'
"As you well know the city has granted
us the franchise asked for, it having been)
done last Tuesday evening. To-morroW
(Friday) afternoon there will be a meeting
of the parties, t. whom the? franchise was
given, in the parlors of Job's bank, to sign
the articles of incorporation which haver
already been dr.iwit up, and then the com'
pany will have been incorporated. The
name is the "Corvallis Street Railway Co."
Books for capital stock subscriptions wilt
be opened on Monday next, the Kith. Con'
tracts are expected to yj let and work
begun by the Hrst of Janirary, 1890 a
hapny new year for Corvallis. Already
sufficient capital is assured for the con
struction of the first mile which will ran a
follows: Bi ginning on Main street at the
crossing leading to postotlice and running:
north to the intersection of M tin aud Mon
roe streets, here it will to-in west up Monroe

resiliences to Harrison street, turning west'
ward again to Ninth street near barn of

road north to the main street leadhig ir.W
Job's addition. We have been correspond'
ing for the past month with car companies)
in 'Frisco and the east relative to the: necea
S'iry equipments of the road, ami already7
have received several catalogues showing;
prices and styles of cars, but as yet no de
cision has been made as to the kind we shall
purchase. I can assure you, however, that
what we purchase will be of the most
modern and improved style. To construct
in ore of the road will, of course; necessitate
the receiving of subscriptions which will be
given their fnil value in the stock of the
company, and next week you can hav a list
of the subscribers who have taken stock, anil
I will say here that those who desire to sub
scribe towards this enterprise will find the
books open at Job's bank. Yon can sy
that every little helps to build tfftit much
more road."
"What about this 'central park-,' that has
been given to the city, Mr. Cox?''
"Central park is situated ill Job's addition
and covers the whole of block 20, being;
200x300 feet At Monday's meeting of the
council this park was deeded to the- city.
And a vote of thauks was tendered, and tliu
deed ordered recorded. It is the intention
of the city to take hold of this business and
with the aid of private subscriptions make it
a thing of beauty. The necessary shrub'
bery to be planted will be placed in charee
of an experienced gardener and taste will be
shown in the arrangement. This park is
about one-half mile tronf the court boose.
Seventeen dollars anil a half have been sulf
scribed up to to-day towards beautifying it,
and subscriptions will be received any
time."
"What do yon think of the fntare of
Corvallis?" Was tbe next question "shoved''
at him.
"Corvallis has a great future, I think
Of course, she never can equal a seaport city
like Astoria, or be a place greater than
Portland, but a great city will be built up
here right in the heart of the valley. Every
day I am receiving letters of inquiry from
Portland real estate men about ptoperty
here. They 'want to be posted on value'
of business lots and other property, and anv
acreage adjoining the cify, 100 or more,' and
want me to 'send some of your bargains.'
We have the best and finest situated eulmr
bau property in the v.illey, and with a little
extra exertion can make Corvallis boom all
over. No one need be afraid to invest ii
real estate here for it will certain! v increase
rapidly in value in '90. To-day i received
my lithograph maps of Corvallis, anrf Job's
and Belmont addition. Yon see it gives
tbe lay of the city, and additions, all the
principal buildings, tlie proposed water
ditch, the route of the street railway, the
railroads, agricultural college, thu proposed!
bridge across the Willamette, and gives the
amount of money expended hi improvements'
in '89. This was all done at my own ex
pense, and I have 1,000 of them to dU'
tribute to those who will place them where
they will do the most jrooiL" '
''Where is Belmont addition, yotf spoke
about?' "It is located nort i of this city and iut
the Eglin 43-acre tract. Here is the cross
ing of the 8. P. ami O. P. and at this cross
ing a depot will Iw erected but I am telling;
you too inueh. As coining events cast their
shadows before tliem, yoa already have the
shadow watt for the event. It is coming."
