The Democratic party of Oregon, instate Convention assembled, proclaim the fol lowing propositions of political faith and action: 1. Unfaltering devotion to the cardinal principles of Republican government; as put into practical operation by the Fath ers of the Republic. 2. The preservation of the general gov ernment in the proper exercise of the pow ers delegated to it in the Constitution, carefully and strictly construed, and the maintainance, inviolate, of the several States of the Union in all their rights, dig nity and equality, as the most competent and reliable administration of their own domestic concerns, and the surest bulwark against the tendency toward a centralized despotism. 3. Opposition to aggressions by either department oft he government, upon the functions of any other and to the exercise of Federal authority of anyof the rights or powers assured by the constitution to the States respectively, or to the people. 4. Thatevery attempton the partof the Federal government to exercise any pow ers not delegated to it, and especially every interference by the government or any of itsdepartments, with the local af fairs of any State, or with the rights of the people thereof to choose their own repre sentatives, is an act of usurpation which should be repudiated and condemned by every friend of constitutional liberty. 5. We demand retrenchment, reform, and the most rigid economy in the ad ministration of every department of the government; the honest payment of the debts, the sacred preservation of the pub lic faith; strict accountability of all olli- cers, and the speedy and impartial ar raignment of all abuses of public trust be fore the tribunals of justice; a zealous care o f the rights of election by the people; the absolute subordination of the military to the civil authority. The equal and impar tial administration of the laws, and the protection of the rights of all; freedom of religions, ofthcpress, and of the person, under protection of the habeas corpus, and trial by juries impartially selected. 6. We protest against the burdens of a protective tariff, as needless exactions from a people already intolerably oppress ed by a national debt, and we insist that the tariff be so regulated as to provide on ly sufficient revenue for an economical ad ministration of the government, and not for the purpose of enriching the few at the expense of the many, or fostering one branch of industry to the detriment of an other. 7. That the precious metals are the on ly basis of commercial values; that an ir redeemable paper currency is a national curse, and we insist upon the speedy re turn by the national government to specie payments. 8. ' The institution of the system of na tional banks was a fraud upon the coun try and an injustice upon the laboring classes, and we demand such prudent leg islation as will gradually bring this vi cious system to a close; that all currency which may be issued shall be convertible into coin upon demand and be issued di rectly by the go.vernment. 9. That the treaty between the United States and China shall be so modified as to apply solely to commercial relations. 10. That we condemn the party in pow er, not only for its contempt of constitu tional obligations, but for extravagant, partisan and corrupt administration of the federal government; for its reckless expenditure and profligate waste of the people’s money; forits oppressive, unjust and defective system of finance and taxa tion; for the perversion o f the functions of the general government to enrich the great corporations at the expense of the people; for the jobbery and frauds which have brought reproach upon democratic institutions; for the iniquities of the pro tective system; for the curse of an incon vertible paper money; for its disgraceful diplomatic service and unfit appoint ments and continuance in office of incom petent and corrupt men at home and abroad; for its attempt to pass an uncon stitutional force bill, and for a catalogue of other enormities which have rendered that organization offensive to and subver sive of the liberties of afree people. 11. That corporations are t he creatures of law; their functions and privileges arc granted to subserve the public interests, and when they are not used for the object of tlieir creation, but for purposes of op pression and extortion, we declare it to be the right and duty of the legislative pow er to regulatemnd control such corpora tions for the public good. 12. That we disapprove all measures in the interest of monopolies against labor, and therefore we approve of the declared principles and sympathize with the avow ed objects of the order known as the Pa trons of Husbandry, and with those of all other orders having for their object re trenchment and reform in public affairs and the social advancement of the people. 13. That we are in favor of laboring to secure judicious appropriations from Con gress fop the purpose of improving our har bors along the western and northern boun daries of our State, and we demand that our representatives in congress shall use their best efforts to secure the aid of the general government for the free naviga tion and improvement of the Columbia river, by the construction of locks at the Cascades; the improvement of the XVal- lamet and Ooquillc rivers; the construc tion of the Portland, Dalles and Salt Lake and AVim.einucca Railroads, and the ear ly completion of the Oregon and Califor nia Railroad from Roseburg to the State line. 14. That the policy of the Republican party in dealing with the Indian tribes is Impolitic and unwise; that the time has arrived when the few Indians now occu pying the Umatilla, Grand Ronde and Si- letz reservations should be removed to some other locality, and thus open up to settlement, by whites some of the richest portions of the State. 15. That we invite the hearty co-opera tion of all parties, whatever may have been their past political affinities, to unite with us in carrying out the principles here in euunciated. DRESS MAKING! ,0 T H E M F C R T l i V A . I i HEW REMEDIES! Ef.REM EDIES! DR. ARTIES DESIRING TO ACT AS Agents, must accompany their appli cation by a letter of recommendation as to character and responsibility, from and signed by the Editor of a newspaper pub lished in the town or county for which agent proposes to act. The agency is to sell the bonds of the Industrial Exhibition Company. P iisiiism' 623 , Kearney St., « Quarter “ 10 5 a U The Industrial Exhibition Company willfurnish agents with Circulars etc., etc. Each newspaper publisher in the town where agent is located, will, as soon as agency is established, be given an adver tisement, advertising such agency and the Company, and fully explaining the plans, purposes and objects of the Company. Hucii advertisement will continue in such papers, ¡as long as agency is successfully conducted. The Industrial Exhibition Company is the first to adopt the plan so long in use by the European governments, of issuing bonds when the principal is made secure and not risked, and where there isachance for a large premium, an investment of 320 is sure to return to the investor 821—one dollar more than cost—and the holder of a $20 Bond, may obtain a premium, either of $50, $100, $200, $500, $1,000, $3,000, $5,000, $10,000, $25,000 or $100,000. The interest, which is ordinarily distributed to all the bond holders pro rata, is in this loan dis tributed by chance. The purchaser of a bond knows he will receive back his in vestment, with a small rate of interest ad ded, and in consideration of taking this small rate of interest, he lias a chance in the above named premiums, which are simply the distribution of interest on the whole loan. Each bond participates in four drawings each year, until it has drawn a premium, When it is surrendered, the premium paid, and the bond cancelled. The Industrial Exhibition Company, un der special charter, granted by the State of New York, is given authority to issue these bonds. The Legislature of the State, recognizing the great benefits which will arise from the success of this enterprise, have exempted all the real estate and pro perty of the Company from taxation and assessments for five years, and has also conferred other great benefits. Every American who understands the purposes of this Company will, of a neces sity, feel a pride in aiding it to a success ful termination. Each individual who buys a bond be comes an owner and an interested party,, and when he views the structure erected with his money, can say: “ I aided to erect in our country, the most magnificent buil ding the world lias ever seen, a palace which, in truth represents the industry, energy and mechanical genius of the American people.” The manufacturers and the inventors of America are peculiarly interested in the success o f this enterprise, for the reason that it is to be their home, where all their inventions and manufactures can be ex hibited and sold. The buildingwill contain 5,320,000square feet of space. Purchasers desiring Bonds before an agency is established where they reside, will communicate direct wit h I his office, from where they can be supplied. Parties desiring to act as agents, or to purchase bonds will address INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION CO., No. 12 East 17th Street, Bet. B’W AY & 5th AVE., NEW YORK CITY.
