Sup’t. o f the Nevada & Northern Telegraph Company, arrived in our city last week from San Francisco. He is making an effort to extend the line from Silver City to W alla W alla, via. Boise and Baker City. Our people should donate liberally to this enterprise. Those sub scribing will receive telegraphic script for amount o f subscription, which w ill be worth at a»y time from 75 to 80 cents. One- lialf to be paid when the poles are on the ground , and the balance on completion of the line to this place. Already $1500 lias been subscribed, and we think our citizens will m ake it $1500 more. Subscriptions left at J. W . Virtue’s Bank. B e w a r e !—The young lady who waved her handkerchief at our Junior “ Devil” last Sunday w ill confer a favor on us by not doing so again. The young im p is nearly crrzy . He has spoiled two rollers, “ pied” a colum n o f type, shied a “ shoot ing-stick” at the forem an’s head, stood on his head in an ink keg, at the same time attempting to balance a “ galley” o f “ live m atter” on each foot; written her name on every blank sheet o f white paper he could find, besides continually singing: “ W hen I get to heaven, how can I stay ?’’ and “ Como where m y love lies dreaming,” but owing to his extreme modesty, we do not think he w ill venture where his “ love lies d ream in g .” B lo oded S to ck .— We call the attention of Stock men to the advertisement of John Earley, of Boise City, which will be found in another column. Here is a chance for some of Our Horse Men to buy a Thorough bred Stallion. We are well acquainted with John Earley, and know that what he says about his stock will be the truth. He brought this horse, with several others, from Kentucky, some two months ago, at which time, it will be remembered, we no ticed the, fact. We want good stock here— it costs no more to raise good stock than poor and the profit is from one hundred to five hundred per cent, greater. It Mow ed, it snowed, it froze, and then repeated the same thing over again, to such a degree that the oldest inhabitants come to the con clusion that our next winter had set in very early. Even the hens became disgusted with the prospects and stopped laying eggs. W hen a girl crops her front hair, and pulls it down over her forehead like a Mexi can mustang, and then ties a piece of red vel vet around her nock, who can wonder at the number of pale faced young men that throw away their ambition, and pass sleepless nights in trying to raise down on their up per lips.
