Salem certainly is un excelled iu natural beauty by any city we have ever seen. There is a freshness aud cheerlnluess about it i that is not to be found iu any of the large cities. The streets are broad and lined by beautiful shade trees. The new Court House is a magnifi cent structure, but it is surmounted by a curious figure supposed to ie justice, which certain.y needs recon struction in many particulars. Sal em is the “ City of Churches,” as nearly every portion of it has a church edifice. There is iu course of construction here the State Capi tol, which, when completed, will be the most magnificent strum tire in the State.
