So much depends upon this un ion—nothing more nor less, perhaps than the preservation of the Demo cratic party as a separate, vital, po litical organization. Let but the Democrats, divided upon local is sues, agree to unite upon the grand, substantial doctrine of the welfare of the entire party, iD the city, the State, the conn try ;and their triumph will be assured. Democrats have three duties now. One duty is to run tbeir own city candidates, and, believing in their old majority of three to one, elect them. That duty performed, the other of saving the State follows. The second duty ful filled, then comes the last, most sol emn duty of saving the country, And all this will be the result of a united Democracy—and that alone.
