J ones :— In my judg ment the question whether or not it is indeed true that our friends iu the spirit life are desirous of communi cating with us, and hare the power under certain conditions to do so, is a question of transcendent impor tance. Whatever men may say about it, however much faith they may profess in immortality, it would he a great thing to k n o w that we shall live in tho great hereafter. The world will bo greatly blessed aud benefited by the d e m o n s t r a t i o n of man’s immortality if that demonstra tion shall ever come to it. Besides what true heart does not yearn for tidings from tho loved ones gone be fore? It Iras occurred to me that it might be of interest to your readers, and of advantage to the cause of truth, if those who engage in the in vestigation of the phenomena called Spiritualism, would occasionally re port through your columns such facts as they can personally vouch for as occurring in the course of such investigation. And with your per mission, I propose to report a few facts in my own recent experience. Having, at my home in the far West, (Oregon), read of many won derful developments of spirit power, I resolved, upon a recent visit east ward, to miss no opportunity to see and investigate for myself. About the 25tli of April, I arrived at Keo kuk, Iowa, and while visiting friends at that place, 1 learned that a medi um by the name of W. W . Little, was giving seances in that place. I called upon him on the afternoon of April 28t!i, and found no other visi tor present. He consented to give a seance for my special benefit. At his request I placed a pair of baud- cuffs upon his wrists. They were so sc#irely locked that it was impossi ble for him to use his hands except as a prisoner might when handcuff ed. I examined his cabiuet very carefully and found it to contain on ly some musical instruments, a tum bler and a pitcher of water, and per haps one or two other articles. Up on being placed in the cabinet, he went in a trance state, and the cabi net was closed and a lighted lamp placed on the top of it, the room be ing darkened. There was the usuid bell ringing, playing upon instru ments, including the beating of the drum, both ends of the drum being beaten at once, a feat impossible to be performed by the medium while handcuffed. But these things were not so remarkable as to convince me that a super human agency was at work. Presentlv.however, the tum bler of water which had been left ia the cabinet was presented at the ap erture. Thinking it might be the hand of the medium, I requested that it might be passed outside,— whereupon the tumbler passed out side of the aperture a distance of fifteen inches, and remained appar ently suspended in the air some sec onds, during which I examined care fully and could see no human hand ouching it, though I could distinct- y see all around it. The pitcher of water was afterward passed out and some water poured from it upon the T NO. 1 RATE!» OF A D V F R 1 ^ lU y ^ One square or less, one insertion,.. ^ Each additional insertion........................•* 1 ^ One square threo months,.....................*® * Business Advertisements by the month- Qnsrtor column....................................®® Half column...........................................'• « P0 One column,........................................... 2® ®® Ton per cent, additional on advertisements to which a special position is guaranteed. You may remember,— besides Dr. S. and myself, excepting Mr. Editor, that in company with of course, the invisible power, what my brother I called upon you in Chi* ever it was. All this occurred in cago, reluted my Keokuk experience, daylight and in a very light room.— and expressed a desire to prosecute During all these demonstrations (ex further investigations, and that you cept the slate writing) Dr. S. was to advised me to call upon Dr. Gordon, all appearance totally unconscious, of Philadelphia, who had just then and sat with his eyes closed. Many arrived in Chicago. I accordingly other strange things ocourred, which went to Dr. O ’a rooms, and my I have not space to record. I have brother accompanied me. And here simply stated tbo facts, and I ask,— let me »ay in justice to Dr. Gordon, are they not worthy of tho attention that although I was at the time dis of all honest and intelligent men nnd satisfied with the results of our se women? What was—as after of news: wards appeared—very significant, A few days since there waa shipped was the following: Dr. G. appeared from Washington to Long Branch to be controlled by the spirit of nn tliesuminer house of President O rant, Indian who called himself Owosso, three wagon loads of choice flowers and who spoke through the medium in somewhat broken English, and in in pots, two rustic settees, and forty a very peculiar dialect.
