Fi M’CRARY, p . m . was drawn by six beautifialand spir ited horses and were driven by Mr. Stubbs who managed tbem as thongh the whole six had been but one. The La Grande Brass Band dis coursed fine music on the occasion and our citizens generally express the wish that they may often visit us. The Baker City Brass Band did not turn out as a seperate company, but joined in with the La Grande Band. The Champions of the Bed Cross turned out forty-two, strong in full regalia, and added much to the beau tiful appearance of the procession. This celebiation was the most or derly and well conducted affair wo ever witnessed. There was not a drunken man upon the grounds or upon the streets of our city that day that we have heard of. The people of Baker county as well as those of Baker City are proud of the manner of which the proceedings of of tho day passed off. The Ball at the Court house in the evening was a very pleasant affair— in fact we have yet to hear of the first person who was not folly satis fied with the complete programme of the day and evening. The whole thing reflects great credit upon the committees and others who had charge and mangement of this cele bration. E piscopal S er vic e . —Rev. P ebsons The Oregonian says: A letter from Gchoco dated June 8th, speaks of tho great excitement in relation to the recent discovery of gold diggings —The writer says the prospects ob tained varied in quantity or value from three to five cents to the pan of dirt washed as a general thing, but as high as six bits and one dollar had been obtained in several of the fa vorite claims. The whole of Ochoco and the surrounding country was in a fever of excitement, and nothing is thought or talked of but the sup posed “ big thing” the lucky ones had struck. The celebration of the 4th of July, at Baker City, was the most pleasant affair of the kind that it has ever been our good fortune to attend.
