r * îi* n 1873 . LEGAI ADVERTISEMENTS, O reg on . Etcum lon. BAMBERBER& FRAIK, Anthems most glorious doom. Wrought hv Phidias’ master hand, Looming with majesty tip. Nor compare with scenes like this. I Such might answer as a partial de scription of the day [Saturday, June 14th, 1873] chosen by theyoungpeo- ple of La Graude wherein to Lave an excursion on the banks of Ladd Creek, a beautiful stream of liquid water, which has its water shed not far from W o lf Creek mining district. Le*aving La Grande, about 9 o’clock the various conveyances were on the road making rapid progress in the direction of their proper destination, which place was arrived at in a short time. Here encamping in the foliage and shrubbery that lines either side of the crystal stream, the party made preparations for fishing. The local ity is surpassingly enehaneing to be hold— the grand and the sublime, the romantic and the picturesque, combined with the wild and awe in spiring. To the student of nature we think nothing can surpass the di versified scenery here combined. It would seem that the Great Creator had here associated in one glow of beauty all the natural elements of contrast. The stream has its source many miles in the dark and weird recesses of the ragged mountains, passing swiftly in the solitary depth of a deep gorge. On each side of the flucture are forests of massive pine, whose huge bodies sway to and fro, as the winds whistle through the evergreens, awakening therein a thousand leafy harps, which ever Änd anon join in the soft melody of the babbling brook far below. Shel tered from the rays of the sun and tropical winds, might be seen spots of the beautiful snow, which greatly «□chanced the enchantment of the *cene* Header, if you are a true lover of that which is grand and sub lim e as well as that which is romau- <tic and magnificent, follow me in a oircuitious route to the summit of that tall cliff that seems endeavoring to kiss the brow of heaven. W e now stand upon a huge eonic elevation of basaultic stone. Many hundred feet below is the beautifal mountain stream filled with agile trout, sport ing in its crystal waters; we hear the ringing laughter of many happy voices indulging in rhapsodies of happiness; we feel the cool winds straying amid the forest isles, pro ducing effectuous notes; and the sweet perfume of the ever fragrant evergreen and blossoming foliage raising on every breath of air. Sur rounded by these everlasting moun tains, and with scenes moro beauti ful than that of the garden of Damas cus we can not help giving vent to emotional feeling, produced by ex ternal objects, and we fear that we have wandered wholly from our or iginal theme and must devote a few words to the excursion. There were but few fish caught during the day; but the party enjoy ed themselves without an alloy scarcely. A few acoidents of minor importance occurred. From the de scription of the looality it may be seen everything was calculated to contribute towards the enjoyment of the participants. The ride home ward was a pleasing feature of the excursion. It was not moonlight, but the heavens were bespangled NOTICE OF SA LE ON EXECUTION.
