We see by the papers from differ-
nt portions of the State, that there
a very general feeliDg among our
.plo to celebrate the Coming An
Biversary of our National Independ
ence. W ould it not be well for our
eitizens to take steps in this matter
to have a regular old-fashioned cele
bration at Baker City? W e should
bo able to have a celebration liere.-
Baker City is the foremost town in
Eastern Oregon, and it will do us no
harm, but great good, to invite our
surrounding neighbors to partici
pate in the Celebration of the Com
ing Anniversary of our National In
dependence.
W e would suggest
that our citizens meet at the Court
House Friday evening,
at half
past ei^ht o’clock and take the nec
essary initiatory steps to inaugurate
this celebration. W e hope to see a
full turnout. Let every one go and
aid in this matter.
S weet C ider .—“ Pap” Lovina.has, at his
Wholesalo and Retail establishment in this
city, a flr8trate article o f genuine sweet ap
ple cider. The printers know what is good,
and they have, tried thisarticle. “ Pap” keeps
a full supply o f firstrate tobacco and cigars,
together with all other commodities in his
line o f business.
S. B. M c C ord has built for himself a large,
commodious and beautiful residence in Fish
er’s addition to Baker City. It will he an
ornament to our city when completed.
J o. C leaver ’ s now Furniture Warerooms

completed it will be the finest establishment

it seemed as if Death had forgotten them.
Their mediciues were herbs and roots. They
have left this fact on record, and the word
seems to be now taking note o f hand retura-
iug to the first principles o f medication. Hos
t e le r ’s Stomach Bitters, the purest and most
efficacious vegetable restorative o f the day, is
also the most popular. Thousands o f persons
who only a few years ago believed implicitly
in all the poisons which figure in thepharma-
ccepia, now pronounce this palatable tonic and
alterative an all-sufficient remedv for dispep-
sia, nervous debility, constipation, billions
complaints; headache, intermittent fevers,
and all the ordinary disturbances o f the stom
ach, the liver, the discharging organs and the
brain. The time is not far distant when most
o f the powerful and venomous drugs now so
recklessly administered by practitioners o f
the “ heroic” schM i^n vases that might easi-
ly be controlled bv milder treatment, will be
utterly discarded by all philosophical physi
cians. As it is, the thinking public, who’are
generally ahead of the professionals, have al
ready put the dangerous preparations aside
and adopted Ilostetter’e Bitters in their stead
as a safe and excellent household medicine,
adapted to almost every ailment except the
organic and deadly contagious diseases. For
more than twenty years this famous restora
tive and preventive has been annually
strengthening its hold upon the public confi
dence, and in.ow takes the lead o f every adver
tised medicine manufactured in this country.
T he City Brewery folks are making some
tastety as well as substantial improvements
about the Brewery grounds. Baker City
east o f Powder River is beginning to present
a beautiful and lively appearance.

and delivered to our citizens twice a week by
Mr. James Toney.
