The Ortgonian writes an article defining
Harrison's policy with regarJ to removal

the pictldent hat decided not to remove

we desire to call particular attention to Is
the conclusive evidence In the article re
ferred to that the Ortqoniun ha Regener

the acts of its own partv a right under all
clrcunistance, and that of the democrats at

ing to eke out tome credit for Harrison for
adopting the policy above spoken of, it
sayt ; "Cleveland slaughtered nearly the
whole line of republican officials w Itbout

President Harrison' action in remitting
the fine of an Indians democrat convicted
tome time ago of election fraud it a proof
that the President hat a remnant of con
science left in partisan matters.
With hundreds of indicted republicans
In Indiana set tree by the Invented techni
calities of a political Judge belonging to
their party, it would be a marked Injustice
to keep ln confinement a solitary democrat
convicted through the partisan xeal of the
same Judge.
Tne rtmission of the fine in Coy' case
calls attention to another shameful incon
sistency in Judge Wood'a rulings in elec
tion cue This jurist, who it now being
pushed for a seat on the .Supreme Bench,
threw out of court a few weeks ago a large
number of Indictments against republicans
for crimes in the last election on the ground
that it wat necetsary to charge and to prove
that the bribery or fraud was actually prac
tised in connection with the election of
Congressmen.' Upon the Co trial, a year
and a half ago.thl tame Judge decided that
the indictment wns good under the Federal
law, although there wat no charge or proof
that the vote of the candidate for Congress
had been tampered with, the alteration of
return affecting alone the candidates for
criminal Judge.
If there it to be one law for rascals and
another for democratic rogue it is perhaps
creditable to the President to do what he
can to correct the injustice. But what hope
ia there of honest elections in Indiana
when "dishonor are easy" and crimes
against the suffrage go unpunished ?
