The Tril'iinci Cincinnati ecLd says
Gov. Williams' death causes a new Sen
atorial complication in Indiana, am
threatens to leave the - State without
head and prevent the election of a Uni
ted States Senator. The law requires
that lieforo cither the Governor or
Lieut.-Governor can ta'ie their seat the
two houses must be organized. The
Senate is a tie While Gray was Lieut.
Governor he had the easting vote, as he
had two veats ago ; but the death of
Williams leaves the tie to be broken by
defection from one m.1 or the other.
The Deufocrals have determined, as
heretofore, to organise the Senate, and
will cling to their determination. . If
each side stands firm'the Senate cannot
organize, and without it neither Gover
nor nor Lieut.-Govcrnor can take
seat, and at the same time the constitu
tion terminates the ofiico of acting Gov
ernor on the second Monday of January,
If the two sides of tho Senate lock
horns and remain in that attitude the
State can be kept indefinitely without
a Governor. A United States Senator
is to be elected to succeed Senator Mc
Donald. It is claimed a U. S. Senator
must be ebcttd at a stated time, and if
the time gicsi by the Democrats say no
legal election can be made by the pres
ent Legislature, and th next they hope
to fiiake Democratic.
