A Grange rimlr.
FoitKH op Havimm, Oct. 25th.
Eil llor J)rmitrrnt '
I had the pleasure of attending one of the
largest Grmij;o iiciiic. at Santiain Grange
Hall last Saturday that I havo ever known
of in this locality. The meeting seemed to
Isi conducted principally by Win. Cyrus,
Muster of the Grauge, and as long a such
men are in Ilia lead 1 cannot help having
great rniilidetiee in tho order. Over 2.K) per
sons wore present. After all bad congregated
at the hall a procession was formed, and, led
by the little folks, innrclicil around the unrtli
of the building, iiud nttnckci! a bountiful re
past w hich had been spread there by the sis
ters. This ua apaitof the program in
which all could take part ill fact tho vict
ual. worewigiHsl thatall hid to. At the clime
of the dinner all repaired to Ilia hall, and
Hon. John i'ryant Is-ing introduced, made a
vury appropriate aildresa'So tlio cliildeu, of
whom there were many present. I never
knew I cforo that the Ii range had anything
to do with children, but 1 think more of the
orgmii..itfon now than ever. It seem to lie
Just a largo family and a well-regulated
family, too - w here each member i. interested
in tho affairs of all, and even the children
aro not forgotten.
R. A. Irvine, State lleputy, was then in
troduced, and talked to the audience turarly
an hour, showing up iu a very siiuted innii-
ner the object, of the order, aud what bene.
lit. had IsM-n iletivid from it by the farming
community since its ornuiz-ition. Hi. point,
were all made exceedingly plain, and were
very convincing - just what is needed to
cause the mentis rliit of the order to in
crease. .
At the close of Mr. Irvine', remark', a
little daughter of L, W. l'omeroy delivered
a recitation .urprisiugly well for ooo of her
yar.. A choir rendered gil vocal music
after each speech, and I believe that I en
joyed the whole proceeding, more than at
any other gathering I have ever attended in
"The Fork.." It ia my opinion that these
gathering, should be hehl m'tencr. The
Grange has 1-ctii very much misrepresented
by parties w bo never underatisxl its work
ings, and nothing will aceouipliah more
toward, placing it in a right light before the
ieoplo than these picnics or sociables. 1 am
very glad that I attended, ami hereafter
shall never mist au opportunity to swell tbe
crowd on audi occasions.
