T. P. Hackleman, Msq., Albauy t Jinir Sir: Your lotter of yesterday has been considered by our Directors. If the people of Albany would raise forty five thousand dollars, one-third ( 13.000) payable alter our road reaches that city from lay ton, another third payable one year thereafter, and the last third payable when ever we roach the city of Portland from Al bany, or if we reach this city next year then that third would be (913,000) livable one year thereafter tu the fall of we will on return for that subscription connect with your city as speedy at possible but not later than above mentioned rioda, and pro vided of oeurse that the county bridge was built ahead of na. There are many reason why Albany should prefer the west side connection to Portland. 1st. The distance eur Kugiaeer tails us, is SO miles r'.'i Dayton, Dallas and Monmouth to Albany from Portland. 2nd. As we do not ask any money uutd you get the road yoa have the eertaiuty of it if you raise ynurwubsuriptions ahead. 3d. Yoa have then two competing and in dependent Railways to Portland and thus you have your 'city prosperity and future is fixed beyond a doubt. 4th. If there ever should be a port of ship ment at Yaquina Bay tit to load vessels draw ing 14 feet of water, we would guarontee to go there whenever this was proved, ria Kings Valley in connection with the Yaquina liay KailroM Uompany. 5th. r.ren although Albany makes connec tion with Lebanon by a broad gaage tut me ask your people the quest-on what would a brancn ot 1. miles to toat city do Albany 7 None, but considerable harm. Why? lie. cause at present the people of Lebanon are bound to Haul to Albany, but when that branch was bcilt the Lebanon people's wheat and passengers will be hauled past Albany straight to rorlland so that your people will be worse etf than now. In regard to the bridge across the Willam ette at Albany, that belongs properly apeak ing to the citizens of Benton and I inn to. do. Hence we wiU agree to take oar ralwsr op posite to Albany, and guarantee that if we did so, that whenever a bridge was built across the river we would free of charge place oar depot at whatever place in the city of Albany the people desired us across that bridge the cost of which latter ire would not pay. Yours truly. illiasI i;ui, 'resident. We this week received direct from the largest wool dealing Urn in Xew York City their regular monthly report, and as great many of oar readers are deeply interested in the matter we publish extracts from it : Since onr last circular the Wool market has continued very active for all descriptions of Wool, particularly for fine and coarse de scriptions. Medium Wools, on account of their scarcity probably, are not reportwt largely in the sales. CTBe greater part of the business daring the past lour weeks has been in tine Wools. The position of the goads market continues strong. Mannfacturers generally have large orders ahead, and on some descriptions, par ticularly flannels, material advance in price has been obtained. When we take into consideration the fact that this is usually tho season when the strongest efforts are used by lioyers to de press prices and thereby inuuenee tUo views of farmers at the opening of the clip, the firmness and activity in the Wool market is particularly . noticeable.
