The throe mountnius first mentioned am located au tiieeouth aide af Camp Creek, about three or four miles apart, lying in tl.a form or a triangle, while the otlsur oiie la situated north of Camp Creek, about two miiao north of lAgau's liutta. Batwean the four mountains are altuated thai celebrated silver well, or rath or tha majority of tlinm, though there are others Id nearly every direction. Asa close proqieot on the sides 0 .tlieas mountain would require considerable capital there baa been very .little work done In those places, and it la the opin-. So far the quart lodges which have been recorded are geaerally ooiiliued to the north aid of lgan'a Butte, and among the foot hills between that place and Jerry mountain, on Clover and Pole creeks. In these localities there sre some itch leads owned by T.. Watklua & Co. ami tha Hllver Hill Co., of this olty, aatl J. I). Ufollet, Then. Cartwrlght Co., and a great many others, Up to the time we left ( May Stb ) eighty cutlass had been recorded, and fully double that number were held by post ing. We have descriptions of nearly all of the beat ledges, and will probably coaauieiioeiliolr publication next week. One thing which we noticed in our rambles through that country was that whsuever you nnda lead, and sau trace It tar any distance, It will, In nine case out ol ten terminate la a sliver well. Our fntth In the richness af the silver springs rcata to a considerable extent on title fact. This Is the trunstato of affairs; she ailVer la there, and in pay In quantities, bul, like all such uiiw-e, It will take considerable expenditure of capital before tlio pro Ills will be reaped. It la no plaoe for o poor mail ; all the prospecting has been j done by that class of persons, and some very good claims have been discover ed by them, but the deelnpment will have to be made by capital. No ma obluery has yet been ordered to work up the quartx, aud there probably will not be until after the famous silver wells have beeu tested. II they should nrovs rich, aa they surely will, It will attract capital to that community, and theu Wanoo eoualy will have the rich est mines on the l'aclflc Coast. THIRD STREET CiRAIiE. Kditor Jkmucrat : A MANY, May Shift, 1B77. The City Council hai certainly com- mitted a grave error In the matter of ; gratllnsTliIrd street between Washing ton and Calapoola streets. The grade a now established, Is to cut Third street abeut five feet at the Junctli with Calapeola street. What good purpose I to be subserved by Imposing this burden upon the property holder ou this part of Third street, and marring tha beauty aupplied by nature to this part of our olty, does not to u very ; readily appear. This work I not ile- mantled by teamsters or pedestrians ; it is not needed to fucllilute drainage ; II Is not required In order to repair the street upon aa even grade with the natural alone or the ground to re.'elre the gravel, and surely, none are so ob. llvlous aa not t know that the gentle undulatlo-j lu ilie land upon which Albany I built 1 the chief beauty of It location, which certainly cannot ba Improved lu the way proposed by the I Council. If It Is Intended to atop with till grade upon read, lug Calapoola street, team can not get Irom one street to the other at this point, and If It la iuteuded to continue that grade en Third to -Viua street, aud then bring Calapoola street down to an even grade therewith, then the people cannot get onto or cross either without desceuding aud secendlug A bank four or fly .feet. high. Of course Washington street from First lo Third, and Second from, Ferry to Calapoola must be brought by the band of the dlaeelttr to tb same level. Hence It eeem to me that th course the City Council have dotarmln d upon In this matter Is to lufllet upon very many cltUsus of Albany griev ous aud a perasanent evil who ar t receive no corresponding aenant wars for.
