A new kind of; mustard-plaster has been in- fonted which promises to be suporior to the old-fashioned sort. It is known as the Omphalic mustnrd plaster; and the mustard is laid on sheets of a thin fabric in spots of about the size of a dime, so that any desired number can be applied. It is only neqessary to dip in water and lay tho plaster on where desired. It is claimed that the disposition of the mustard in spots is the best way of applying this countar-irritant. as its effects are a copy of the results of natural efforts which generally ap pear as spots ot pustules a rather fanciful idoa. The other claim is betteir that the skin is irritatod oulv in patches, and that the process of irritation can bo continued longer wnuout unpleasant results in conse quence of patches of undisturbed skin being left to execute the healing process. This method of making plaster has also been applied in the Omphalic fly-blistor. . Thebapeutical Uses of Hot Baths. Prof. Lasegue, in a paper on the tuerapeuticai uses or cot baths, re marks that these should be of short duration from twenty to thirty min utes at iartnest tne temperature on entering the bath to be lower than that on quitting it, whatever extremes it may reach in the meantime, and the increase of temperature always to be made gradually. The maxi mum should be 118 deg. Fahr., al though 113 deg. is porhaps a bettor limit. This toiiaperature is easily borne, provided the escaping steam be not felt on the uncovered portions of the body, and also provided that the maximum be not maintained over eight or ten minutes. On leaving the bath the patients is to be placed in his bed, whore he soon regains, not his true, temperature, which has varied but little,, but his apparent temperature. M. Lasetrue finds that oold applications immediately after tne not uaiu, contrary to .what takes place after vapor baths, -are neither useful.nor agreeable. The disease which yields most readily to this.sys tora of hot baths, it is stated, is chronic rheumatism producing de formities of the joints, which usually resists all ordinary modes of trent- ADVERTISEMENT?. A remedy for this afiootion, as suesoRted bv Dr. Hagar, is as follows : Five - carts of carbolio acid, six' of aqua ammonia (speeuio gravity U.HUU), ton of dis tilled water, and fifteen of nloohol, tire to be mixed together in ' a wide mouthed bottle, half filled with cot-, ton or asbestos, and snuffod up from tune to timo from the bottle. After a thorough trial of his nresorintion Dr. Brand states that it shortens the Inst stage of the disease, prevents tne second, ana alleviates all the symptoms. He prefers, however, to apply it by iuhalution through the mouw as wen as me nose, by nour ijicr a few drons on norous miner nn.1 , f. .4. -i - - Homing !t in thu hollow, of the. hand bcfoi-o the f8co,,with tlie eyes -dosed i- color, vntk tlie nloss ana resmess of youth. Nothing can restore tne nair wnere the tollicles are de stroyed, or the elands atronhicd am decayed; but such as remain can bs saved by this application, and stimu lated into activity, so tnat a new growth of hair is produced. Instead of fouling the hair with a pastr sedi ment, it will keep it clean and vigorous. Its occasional use will prevent tlie hair irom turning gray or falling olf, an consequently prevent baldness. The restoration of vitality it gives to the scalp arrests and pre.ents the forma tion ot dandruti, which is often so un cleanly and offensive. Free from those deleterious substances" which make BOme preparations dangerous and inju rious to the hair, the Vigor can only benefit but not harm it. If wanted merely -for a HAIK DRESSING. nothing else can be found so desirable.
