The dissatisfac tion is nil with citizens of Marion county and is H-'mply caused by Salem's failure to secure the loca tion of the woiks at that placo. ft they had succeeded in, their little game all would have been Rerono, aud they would have been most strenuously opposed to any proposi tion looking to a dUmudmnut. mora is tho wholu cauKo of the "discord," iu a nutshell. Marion county did not subscribe oiio fourth ui uw Btuisn; wuuo ijiun tooK' over half, and yot becauso tlio Direutoro wisely selected Albany (the basu of operations of tho great agricultural center of the Willamette Valley) as the most suitable, convenient and profitable site for the erection and carrying on of the works, the Mariou county stockholders now rear back bu their dignity, refuse (0 pay their assessments and declare their un alterable determination to disband ! Wo ask iu all oandor !b this fair r Is it aotiug iu good faith with the, citizenH of Linn county who have year iu and year out paid tributo to Salem and Marion county? We assist more largely than that cmvity la sustaining tho Stato Government which is located in their mid.4 ; wo literally pour monov in 10 their coffers during the annual State Fair ; aud that rich portion of our crtuniy lying north of tho Sanliaui distrib utes more money yearly into the - pockets of Salem merchants and deal ers than it throws in the' way of our Linn county citizens. Yet wo do not murmur or complain nt all thin. If Saloin can fairly command our patrouago and tribute she should have it. Marion and Linn are neighboring oounlies, and it in mm h bettor that tho circulating medium of our citizens should bo distributed between the two counties than to o' farther from home. Bat the ex change should be as noni'ly 'mutual as pogsiblo. It is unfair for one suction to be oontinually drained for tho fat tening of tup otliur. Heretofore it 1 ha always been ono-sided ; and we Dow ask, since o fairly uuvurvd the locution of these agricultural works, that the enterprise bo permitted to go on without hindrance or niolcAta tion. . It is more than probublo that the meeting called for the litid inntaiit will result as has the two preceding. A majority of the Directum uro uot in favor of disorganization, nnd will j not be represented at n i Kellogg party, knowing that their frauds nnd rascalities wero known and would be thoroughly investigated and mercilessly exposed when the Conservatives gained the reins of Government in that State, and know ing that they were unable to main, tain thcmsolvesiu power much longer even with all their fraudulent ma chinery at work, determined to in augurate a stnto of affairs which would bring on a collision and af ford a pretext for military interfer ence nnd finally bring about the compromise which they have now effected whereby their , pant ads should not be inquired into. JSvery lover of freo government in our country cannot fail to be bitterly disappointed at tho cowardly attitudo of the Conservatives in this compro- mi.io. ihe Kellogg Government was either a legal and fair government or it was not. If it waa not, then why all this hullabaloo and hue and crv about corruption aud why these fran tio appeals to the people of the country to assist in rooting it out and exposing its rottenness? On tho other hand, if it wero guilty of all those gross frauds aud wrongful nets of power, dues not a compromise whore by it is to retain said powor nnd its crimes remain covered up, nuiko tho Cdiworvativos purtfojig criminix with if It is a rotten piece of luminous nnd an affair calculated to disgust the whole country with ull parlies inter ested in it. Such Bonduet, on the part of tho leaders of the two politi cal parties of that Stato will certainly forfeit tho confidence of the masses at homo and the respect of pooplo unroaii, lietler, far better, that nil proposals lor compromise had been liurlod into tho faces, of tho Kellogg rascals with scorn and the people of that State penmSted themselves to be reduced to a territorial condition, giving tho despot Grant supreme authority over the citizens Urougli tho . officials whom ho would appoint. We think with Governor MoKu nery, who said, us ho quiutly with drew f! 'oin the Leo iHlature halls vhen the compromise was uiinuuncod, "It in now time to lower tho Democratic Hag iu Louisiana." Or words to that effect. which in a positive sense have done most of all to discredit it, wore mere ly the outgrowth of iU efforts to cor rupt, under cover of loyul and other pretenses, the better judgment of the North. There has come a healthy reaction, and tho result is a complete overthrow of the existing machine. This reaction the party managers seek to set aside by resorting to the thumb-screw and the inquisition. But all this is too late. Like the Chinese, who throw themselves on their owp swords and let out their lives' by their own hands, the He- publican party has by its own tyran nous acts committed hari-kari and is now in the throes of death. A FAIR ELECTION OR A FBEE FICiBT. Notwithstanding the fact that many Mepublican leaders are now bolster ing up Grant and Sheridan in their Louisiana infamy, they will receive a most overwhelming and blighting re buke when tho people have another opportunity to thuudor their disap proval at the ballot box. And if Grant's military machinery bo used to prevent a full expression at the polls 11s there is every reason to believe it will be tho American peo ple may as well prepare for the bloodiest conflict the world has ever known. To such an act the people will not submit if thoy have aTiy of tho spirit of their fathers remaining iu thorn. In fact if thoy permit the Federal Government to consummate this -villainy, they may oxpect, and ought to lose their liberties.- Like' tho first gun fired upon Fort Sumter, the first, attempt of Grant and his minions to interfere iu our election, ought to startle the Republic from its' present almost Bip Van Winkle slumber aud arouse evory freeman to a defense of our liberties. Our next Presidential election should bo a freo and fair one in all tho States, or a tyrant's head should unswor for it. TO THE MO KUOIiDKHS. Linn County, Feb. 40th, 1S75.
