The next da; we drove 35 miles, and put up at tbe Oceau "House In Newport. The road between the Pioneer House and Newport is very good, excepting a stretch of about 13 miles, which is new and somewhat rough, tltough passable with a light load, gooI team, and trusty driver. "The Ocean House Is well kept and everything is pleasant and comfortable. Board and lodging, $7.00 per aeek. ; There Is a good feed stable at Newport, where you can have your horses attended to iu good order for $1.00 U?r bead per week. There are no steiners on the river at present, but sail nd row boats will' carry pa" jngers at any. time between Elk Cty and Newport for $1.00 each. Newport i a very pleasant place to pass the hot months. Fish are abun dant and iu great' variety, and -are nerved up at tbe Oceau House in the best style known to 'the culinary' art.
