Fremont has written a letter to the New York papers, in which he defends himself- against the charges made in regard to his connection with the negotiation in Paris of the bonds of the Memphis, Ei Paso and Pacific Railway Company. The chief points of this defense are that the transac tions in question did not occur while he was President of the road, but ex isted at least nine months before be assumed that position : that the French courts have taken a kind of snap judgment against him, and that whatever may have been the mistakes and misrepresentations committed in the matter, they originated in Paris, and were neither suggested by nor known to Gen.
