Disgraceful. A woman engaged
as a house servant at the Overland Ho
tel made herself an object of disgusting
attraction on last Sunday night, by
getting drunk and raising a general
row in the neighborhood. She came
out on the street and assailed all whom
she chanced to meet, with language
such as only the most degraded of hu
mankind can utter. A besotted spec
imen of humanity calling himself a
man, also in a beastly state of intoxica
tion, began a war of words with the
woman, and between the two they suc
ceeded in making night hideous for
some time. Marshal Weller finally
arrivedou the ground and arrested the
woman and conveyed her to the lock
up. In the meantime a number of the
boys" turned the hose, attached to the
force pump, loose on the male inebriate,
.and he left before the Marshal could
make his arrest, but not without a se
vere drenching from the hose. Such
scenes are not frequent in Albany.
This is the first instance of a woman
leing arrested in the town, and we
trust that it may be the last.
Xew Fcknituk e. Charley Mealey
is in receipt of an invoice of new furni
ture which is much superior to that
usually presented in this market,
y mong his new chamber sets we ob
serve a set called the "Matchless Lau
rel,'! trimmed with black walnut, which
for beauty of manufacture cannot be
excelled. This set would ornament a
palace. Other new styles of painted
sets may be seen which are neat and
elegant. His miscellaneous furniture
is all of the very best sort, and his well
known liberality is a sure guaranty
that the prices will be reasonable. Call
and inspect his new wares.
Dead. Jyers' coon is dead; literaly
defunct, gone up and passed in his
checks. He suffered death for the old
offence of "eating the forbidden fruit."
Grapes were his weakness and he went
for them; chickens he was fond of and
he occasional y confiscated one. He
was detected and suffered the extreme
penalty of the law. Jyers mourneth
and will not be comforted His friends
sympathize with him but quietly re
joice that the' coon has made his exit
from this sublunary sphere where
it was generally conceded he was more
ornamental than useful. ;
Attextios'. Mr. Jerry Driggs has
-completed the survey of his tim
bered lands en the Santiam river, nine
miles from Albany- The lands have
been subdivided into tracts of ten,
twenty, thirty and forty acre, and are
now offered for sale to these wishing to
ecure small tracts of timbered lands
for fuel, rails, etc. Mr. Driggs will be
In attendance, on Monday, Sept. 18,
1871, on which occasion purchasers are
invited to be in attendance and select
their lands. , , . .. -

Friday a fire broke oat on the W. V. &
C. M. W. Road, about two miles above
Upper Soda, and burnt every thing
clean from thence to Hensley's ranche
. a distance of 12 miles. Many trees
fell across the road, imperiling the
lives of a family who were passing
down at the time of the fire." John
Gilliland went out on .Monday with a
force of hands to clear the road, and
doubtless ere this travel has been re
sumed. ' '
Jewish New Yeab. To-day, Sept.
15th) commences the Jewish New Year.
The observance of this anniversary is
strictly adhered to by the adherents to
the Jewish feith in all parts of the
world. Business of all kinds is usually
suspended from sunset on the 15th until
the .same hour on the 16th, and in some
instances, we believe,' a full week is
observed as a holiday. ; "l :

Columbia, and will probably extend
his journey as far as TTalla IJTalla. ;

Self Ptxisiimext. Jack Shepard
concluded his walk of 100 hours with
out rest or sleep, at Harrisburg on last
TTednesnay evening. Persons who
saw him during the last hour say he
was a pitiable spectacle. The proceeds
did not amount to $20. Jack had
better go to work on the railroad. His
exhibitions are not appreciated in this
enlightened community.
Heats ox Heaps the new goods are
piled up in Blain, Young & Co's store.
In fact we believe they now have the
mammoth stock of Albany, and their
establishment is constantly crowded
with customers, keeping those accom
modating gentlemen continually on the
go to accommodate the crowd. A visit
there will well pay the time and
trouble.
To the Fatk Grocxd. On last
Friday we accepted an invitation from
Mr. J. Z. Crouse and together with
Capt. Humphrey and the gentleman
from "Pipesville," took a spin out to
the Fair Ground. We found Martin

their horses for the coming races.

DrsTY. The j-oads leading to the
country in all directions are terribly
dusty. The pleasure of a drive has al
most become a nuisance. The con
stant passage of wagons, loaded with
grain, over the roads is still increasing
the dust and those who have weak
ness for buggy riding haveionly to
wait for the fall ialns.

Fob Ochoco. Mr. James Douthitt is
making arrangements to take a thresh

started last Monday to convey it to
that new and thriving portion of our
