Hood River. Easterk Oregon.
The Mountaineer of a late date con
tains the following description of this
section: " ' ;
Hood river valley is situated on
the south side of the Columlia river,
twenty-five miles below The Dalles
and rejoices in two small settlements,
one on the west, and one on the east
side of the river. ' There is in the
neighborhood twenty or .thirty. tkou-
sanq acres of Jajiu adapted to agri
culture, of which but a small portion
is as yet occupied. The , valley con
sists in part of prairie, but mostly of
timbered land, all of wnicu ls.thicKly
coated with mountain bunch grass of
the finest quality, as the granivbrous
animals hearabouts attest. Y ltu a
small amount of forage cattle may
be kept in beer condition tne year
round. Heavy crops of acorns every
year or' so. and a vast amount of
camas and other roots that exist in
great abundance, render it a desira
ble place for the hog raiser. Horses
keep very fat the year, round with
little or no grain. Hood river rises
in Mount Hood, and may well be styl
ed a mountain torrent, for its waters
do not flow, but dash down its rocky
channel with astonishing rapidity,
after a . torbulent meandering of
some 60 miles, finally losing them
selves in the Columbia, on the north
side of the valley. If there was any
lack of water-power in this country,
Hood river would of itself supply it,
and yet have enough left for the tons
of trout that glory in its waters.,,
.wear. - Dear, grouse ana prairie
chickens constitute the principal as
sortment of game.
liarley, wheat, oats, and some of
the principal cultivated grasses are
raised in sufficient quantities for
home use, and some to spare. Veg
etables of all kinds do well. The
apple, pear, peach, plum, grape, and
all the smaller fruits grow in profu
sion.
At a distance of from ten to twenty
miles from the Columbia, there is
some of the finest pine and cedar in
Oregon.
Dr Brown Sequard says that he be
lieves the time will come when phy
sicians will be called, not for the
purpose of making sick people well,
but to teach them how not to be sick.
An unmarried friend declared the
other day, with an expression of coun
tenance almost lugubrious, "I never
card a farthing about getting married,
until I attended an old bachelor's fu
neral." . .' ,. - : ,.
Garibaldi now proposes to find an

So ons remedy is londnr

certainty that It will eradicate
the dlaoniw. and with asnur
anee, founded on proof, that no harm can arise
from its use In any quantity. . : ..
That which uroteuto from or prevents this dis
order must be of Immense sorvlce In the coin
rnuniUos where it prevails, itwenfton is better
than cure, for the patient escapes the rUk wlilrh
he must run In violent attacks of this baleful dis
temper. This "CUKK" expels the miasinntio
poison of Fbvkr and Aon from the syxtem.
and prevents the development of the disease, If
taken on the tlrst approach of its premonitory
symptoms. It la not only the best rrnnody ever
yet discovered for this class of complaints, but
also the ohenpeet. The large quantity we sup
ply for a dollar brings It within the reach of
everybody; nd In bilious districts, where
Fbvkr amb Aotm prevails, everybody should
have It, and use It frooly, both for cure and pro
tection. It Is hoped this price Will place It within
the reach of all tho poor as woll aa the rich.
A irreat superiority of this remedy over any
othur ever discovered for the speedy and eertnin
cure of Intermittent is, that it contains no Qui
nine or mineral; consequently It produces no
auiulsin or othur injurious effects whatever upon
le constitution, Ttioso cured by It are lull as
healthy as If they had never had the disease.
Fever and Airtio Is not alone the consequence
of the mlanumtie poison. A irreat variety of dis

when oriionnling in title cause, put en the in

consequently cures theiu all alike. It Is an in
valuable protection to ImmijrranU and persons
travelling or temporarily residing: In the mala

while exposed to the Infection, that will be ex

ed bv their Umelv
use; and every family should have them on hand
for their protection and relief, when required.
Long experience baa proved them to be the saf
est, sureat, and bent or all the fUt with which
the market abonnds. By their occasional use,
the blood I purified, the corruptions of the sys
tem expelled, obstructions removed, and thti
whole machinery of lite restored to its healthy
activity. Internal organs which become clogged
and sluggish are cleansed by Aver' fill: and
stimulated into action. Thus incipient disease
la changed into health, the value of which change,
when reckoned on the vast multitude who enjoy
it, can hardly be computed. Their sugar cooling -makes
there pleasant to take, and preservea Uteir
virtue, unimpaired for any length of time, so
that they are ever freh, and perfectly reliable.
Although searching, they are mild, and operate
without disturbance to the constitution, or diet, or
occupation.
Full directions are given on the wrapper to
each box, now to nse them as a Family I'hysie,
and fur the following complaints, which these
fUl rapidly cure :
For ItyasMiiMtat or IMlictla. I.tstle-
Laajrsor and t Appetite. Uicy

tatM:lie and Itillona Inrrt, Uiey should
be judiciously taken for each cae, to correct the
diaeased action or remove the obstructions which
cause it.
For Dyaery or marrhssMS, but one
mild done is generallv rciuired.
For Ulseeimaitsaaa. iimmt. Gravel, Pala
ptUstlen af Ike llrart, lMia ta ike
14,, Hack and Lata, they should be contin
uously taken, as required, to change the diseased
action of the system. With such change those
complaints diappear.
For Dropsy and Rrapalcal wrtllag,
they should Le taken in large and frequent dusea
to produce tbe effect of a draatic purge.
For Mappreealaa, a Urge lon shonld be
taken, as it produce the desired effect by sym
pathy. As a Dinner Pill, take one or two IUU to
promote digestion and relieve the stomach.
An occasional se stimulate the stomach and
bowels, restores the appetite, and invigorate the
system. Hence it is often advantageous where
oo serious derangement exiat. One who feels
tolerably well, often find that a dose of these
lll make him feel decidedly better, from their
cleansing and renovating effect on the digestive
apparatus.
