of Harrisburg and Eugene are anxious
for a railroad, and are as Justly entitled
to it as any other localities--but wheth
er they ean stand this enormous de
mand I & dubious, question and one
which they alone are able to determine.

Tuesday. A couple of students one
of whom was a son of Luther White of
Brownsville, this county, and the oth
er's name to us not known became
engaged in a quarrel which culminated
in a rough-and-tumble fight. While
they were scuffling away, a black
smith, who was working in his shop
near by, and who was a brother of the
boy whose name we did not learn, ran
out of his shop and jhurfcd an iron pick
et pin at White which struck him in
the hea laud penetrated the brain two
or three inches, causing instant death.
The two brothers aro now In Irons at
Corvallis awaiting a legal Investigation,
while their unfortunate victim was ta
ken to his father's home for Interment.
We seldom hear of a more shocking

quarrel between the two boys.

Spring, who lives at Mr. John Jurd's,
in this city, last Wednesday met with
a singular and painful accident. She
had just finished a new dress, and, ac
cidentally leaving the needle sticking
in one of the ruQles, Ira mediately don
ned it to tea! it fitting qualities. Soon
after she had put it on she knelt down
to arrange the carpet on the floor and
the needle penetrated her knee to the
depth of an inch, breaking off and ro-
