THE CAT.
The eat is called a domestik anionic,
but I never hat bin able tew tell where
fore. . .-.
.You kant trust one eony more than yon
kan a case of the gout. There is only one
mortal thing you kan trust a cat with,
and cum out eren, and that is a bar of
hard soap.
They are at meek as mosiss, but as fall
of doTiltry as Judaa Iscaratt.
They will harvest a dozen uv yung
chickens for yu, and then steal into the
sitting room, as softly as an undertaker,
and lay themselfa down on the rug, at
jura feet, full of injured innocence, and
chicken, and dream of their childhoods
days.
All thare is about a cat, that is domes
tik, that I kno or, is that yu kant loose
one. '
You kant loose a cat they are as bard
to loose as a bad reputation.
You may send one out ut the State,
dan up in a meal-bag, and marked "C.
O. D ," and the next morning you will
find him, or her (according tew sex), in
(he same old spot, alongside ov the
kitchen stove, reddy to be stepped on.
Cats hav got two good ears for melody,
and often make the night atmosphear
melodious with their opera musik.
But. the most wonderful thing about a
eat that has been diakovered yet ix their
fear of death.
Yu kant induce one, by enny ordinary
means to accept of death they aktooally
skoro tew die.
Yu may kill one at much as yu have a
mind to, and they will begin life anew in
few minnitta, with a more flattering
prospectus.
Dogs I love, they carry their criden
tials in their faces, and kant hide them,
but the bulk of a cat's reputation lays
in tbeir stumuk, as unknown tew them
ecls as tew ennvbody eke.
Thare is only one thing about a cat I
like, and that ix, they are very cheap a
little money, well invested, will go a grate
ways in cats.
Cats are very plenty in this world just
now. I couated eighteen from my board
ing house winder one moonlite night last
Bummer, and it wasn't a f ustrate night for
eats neither.
THE KANGAttOO.
The kangaroo is an overgrown monkey.
They are fello-citizeos of Afrika, and
spend most ov their lexzure moments oo
foot. They have four legs, but their
fore legs ain't ov much u?e to them;
they do mo6t ov their acktual bizness
with their hind legs. They travel a good
deal as a frog dux on the jump.
Kangaroos are verry valuabe! in their
place, and Afrika is the piece for them.
I har thought if the hole ov Afrika had
been planted with krngaroos, and none
ov it with other people, it would hav bin
full ax good a crop to know what to do
with.
Kangaroos lir upon roots, eras and
herbs, and kan outjump anything in the
wilderness. In the face they referable
the deer, but in the length of their tails
they resemble a whole herd of deer.
A kangaroo's tail ix a living kuriosity.
In its general habits it looks and akts
like a rat's tail, but in size you must mul
tiply it by six thousand and upwards.
What on arth a kangaroo wants with
so much tail haz bothered the philos
ophers for ages, and i understand that
lately, at one ov their scientific: meetings,
they hav give it up.
The philosophers git beat oftener than
anybody 1 kno ov, but they seldum kit
thing up ; but the kangaroo's tail wax too
mutch for them.
But tho kangaroo's tail don't bother
me any more than a kite's duz; a bob-
taued kangaroo on the jump would act
just like a bobtail kite duz in tho air.
Whenever I cum acrost anything in natur
that I kant explain then i kno at once
that it is all right, for nature never made
enny blunders in the animals ; if she has
failed anywhere it is in the man.
Natur gave man reazon,' and showed
him how to use it, but man lavs to open
the throttle-valve and let reazon hum.
This accounts for his running oph the
track so often and gitting bust up. I
sever knew a kangaroo to bust np.
