railroad stations between here and Salem,
vis : Jefferson, eight miles distant ; Pick-
ard's, five miles from JoOerson, and Marion,
six miles from Pickard's. The latter nam
ed place is the station for Scio, and is ex
pected to be a place of considerable import
ance in the dim future.
The Maecets. In San Francisco wheat
is quoted at $l,9o(n,2.05, per 100 lbs j in
Portland it is quoted at 80(295 cts. per
bushel from inferior to pood white ; and in
this city the highest quotations is 75 cents.
Butter in this city is very scarce, with
the price at 30 cents per pound. Eggs same
price per dosen.
Sidde.v Death. Mrs. ILdeyboss, whose
husband some years ago was killed by the
falling of a tree, a abort distance above Ibis
city, last Saturday waa stricken down with
congexiinn of tbe brain from which she
died in a few hours. She leaves several or
phan children, the youngest of whom are
twins.
A Ri'"B was current in our city yester
day that Hon. John Ostrandcr, member of
the Lower House of the late Legislature
from Linn county, had died at !.is home in
Scio on last Tuesday, of small-pox. We
trust the report is unfounded, for Linn
county could ill afford to spare so good a
man.
