...JUXE 3, 1870. OREGON DEMOCRATIC PLATFORM. adopted at lutir, varcii 23, 1S70.. The Democracy of the Slate of Oregon, through their delegates hi conrention assembled, iu accord ance, with long established usages, proclaim the following as the articles of their faith : 1st,' That they are unalterably attaehed to the principles of our Republic, as expounded by It founders, and that the paramount object of their organization shall ever bo to uphold and maintain those principles inviolate. 2nd. That they hold those political partisans, who, occupying positions of trust, claiming to be representatives of the people, have usurped the authority confided to them, maliciously trampled ander foot our sacred hill of rights, made civil laWsaborJinate to military rule, porrertod tte functions of government and endeavored to con centrate its powers in the hands of an oligarchy, wholly disregarded the will and wishes of their constituents, and insiduouely endeavored to dis parage, depose and stigmatise the once proud ti tle ? American citiaenship, as enemies to the best Bteretts of the Commocwenlth. 3rd. That the so-called reconstruction measures, attempted to be carried out by the present party in power, is a nefarious scheme, revolutionary in design, treasonable in execution, one, which if so owieeeed in as a rightful exercise of authority, will establish a most dangerous precedent and imperil the safety and perpetuitr of our form vf govern ment; and that the present Senators iu tho Con gress of the United States, from this State, in aapporting those measures,, have misrepresented the wishes and outraged the sontimonts of the people of Oregon. 4th. T"t the systematia efforts ma le by that -. , tx'cnd to the African, the Iudian and the Chinamen, all the civil and political rights and privileges enjoyed by the while race, evinces a do eis en the part of its leaders to destroy the high estimate placed upon that invaluable heritage and render despotism less ubiectionablo and more easy of accomplishment. it.- That the ratification or tho recently pro posed amendment to the Constitution of the United States, extending the right of suffrage to the be nighted negro and Indian, aud which opens the door for its enjoyment to the heathenish China men, is irregular, arbitrary aud unlawful, and they moat earnestly protest against the passage by the United States Congress of the pending act, des igned to enforce the obnoxious and illegal r re vision. 6th. That they crge and entreat a repeal of the recent treaty concluded between the United States and China, which guarantees to the latter nation i such extensive privileges and immunities without corresponding benefits to Americen citizens, offers to its hordes of semi-barbarians such favorable in ducements to swarm iu upon us, occupy our min eral and agricultural districts, create a ruinous competition with our laboring masses, establish va rious pursuits, disgusting rites, ceremonies and practice in our towns, discourage and repel the immigration of our own race, decrease the white population, retard thrill, impede the advancement of education and enlightenment, abstract from our resources and send away our valuable mineral wealth, and demoralize and apostatize our comtnu nitj-j and they resolve, that a party who will sus tain a policy so nowise, ruinous and ruthless. that which upholds such an infamous bargain as unworthy the support of white men. 7th. That in the management of the municipal affairs, they urge a judicious application of the principles of sound political economy, a laudable encouragement to agrtealtnral, mineral, manufae taring and commercial interests, a just and equi table protection to the laborer and the capitalist and tne railntul cxcrciM or a system or rigid re trenchment, that the eovernnjeut should be ad ministered for the people, and not against tbea in protecting their rights and interests, and Hot in fostering monopolies to prey upon them and des poil them of their substance. That a system of taxation which bas'for it object the establishment of privileged orders nnder the government, either by preferring one class to another, or by impostn; - griovous burdens upon the tax-payers while con ferring favors, exemptions and immunities upon the holders of government securities, deserves no ether name than legalized nnblic plunder. 8tU. That tae continual paymeut of tne semi annual interest on the bonded debt of the United States, without abatement, together with other enormous expenses for which the people are taxed. make a burden too intolerable to bo borne without an effort to find soms speedy means of relief. That the amount of the bonded debt is increased more than two fold, by the venal, illegal and unjustifi able terms of its contraction that their is ueitbi r justice or wisdom in the repeated payment of the principle by the continued payment of the interest. That it is no part of good policy or good govemmet-t to embarrass the energies of labor, and all bu.ineis enterprise by excessive and oppressive taxation ftr theexelnsive benefit of a combination of ontaxel aptt1, that to relieve the country and to restore prosperity, we favor an equitable adjustment of the bonded debt of the United States. th. That the desire of the present Congress, as manifested by its proceedings, th seenro to the wealthy bond-holder payment in coin on account tf indebtedness growing out of loans to the Uni ted States of treasury notes, when worth less than ene-balf their coin value, after the holders there of have received exorbitant interests thereon, and at tne same time leaving the pensions due enfor tnnate soldiers, their wives, children or other kin dred, to be paid in a depreciated currency, exhibits a spirit of injustice unsurpassed in the history of class legislation, and fuily demonstrates the ex istence of a design on the part of the moneyed ar istoeAey if the country to iatlueaee the estabiWb ment ofta.potieTyeriUg the aggrandizement of the rich at the expense of the poor, a policy which has for -its object the aggregation of wealth, opu lence, aai power on the ote hand, and misery, peverty and slavery en the other ; a policy fitted nly to. a monarchical form of government. 1015, That tho Democracy t f this State aow, as heretofore, are strenuous advocates ef a tariff or purposes of rerenne only. That the principle of "protection for the sake of protection," is at war with the diversified interests of the peo ple of the States, and cxperienco has shown its tendency to aggrandize a class in the community at the expense and to the injury of tho producing ar.d laboring millions, taxing their industry, equal ly in violation of the authority of the Constitution, and ef the great principle that should govern this people in their intercourse with-- the family of na tions:. . ; 11th. That we favcr the adoption cf nn amend ment to the Constiution of the United States, re scinding the XIV and XV amendments. 12th.. That we are in favor of a liberal policy being pursued by the Legislature of this State in the bestowal of tha land grants to her fur the pur pose of-pubHo -improvements ' -- - --, ; 13 tit- That the Governor and resigning members of the' Legislature in engaging in a conspiracy -to overthrow the State government, collect large amonnu-of com as revenne to be drairn from-the business and hard earnings of the people to be idle in the treasury, or to ba the subjects of eram- bling speculations in wt runts, bonds and other securities, were guiity of a Ugh crims against the government or Oregon, rendering them unworthy - the respect and confidence of the people or of be ing farther entrusted with the administration, of the government. And while we thus condemn the action of' the Governor and resigning member. we oabcsitatingZy approve and. endorse the con duet of the Democratic members in earnestly and faithfully striving to restore and maintain the or ganization of the Legislature, and provide for the doe administration c; tac law. .L Schotbla Ls a taint or infection in the hu marrotssntsnj, which weakens the Vital for eeaid4IieVrieraor , disarrange tiie func tiona--ef -tbeFholo jsyrtem.i Tbi&S taint or inficctwa is most usually hereditary; iri-the coBTitorioi(r , svx r it .. may also arise trom ha'jit oC'irife Unwholesme imm!, etc. In ttmeif 'ih la disease does nut show, itself in AnTjleerotis ortubercuIoussTorni; it' io.dtices those t)tneirt ctseanes. such as consumption, lccrationsof tbetitrer;ttiinach and kidneys, alt rheum, dropsy, etc. The hest remedy erer yet discovered is 'Dr. .Walker's Vegk- table YtsECAa BiTTEtts."
