A terrible ae- cident occurred nt the Stato Fair grounds ttf six tVclock this evening. A steam boil er exploited, and there being an immense crowd on the ground nt the time, it is dif ficult to jret the particulars j but it is known that twelve persons were instantly killed and probably one hundred wouuded. Further particulars tf the accident ut tho Fair grounds say nineteen persons have teen killed and about one hundred woun Ocd. The engine was attached to a saw raill and had been C;;pd up for test with another m.' chine. Governor Maker nar rowly escaped serious injury by a frag ricnt which passed! over his head and dangerously wounded his coachman. Sev eral corpses are defaced beyond recogni tion. ' There is great excitement and iccl iagin this city over the event. , New York. Oct. 2.-The "World gives a reported opinion expressed by A. T. Stewart, adverse to BfUtwell's policy of seliing gold and purchasing bonds with the proceeds. lie says it will never lead to specie payment. The purchase of bonds gives speculators the means to carry on speculation. This policy is unquestion ably of great benefit to those with no means of their own, while the solvent uien will entirely oppose this policy. Texas Affairs. GaLvkstox, Oct. 2.-Pro visional Gov. A serious disturbance occurred at 10J o'clock last night. The Republican Invincible club attacked the Keystone club (Democratic), while marching past the Invincibles' head quarters. An affray oecurcd just oppo site the Mayor's office. Fifteen or twen- ty persons wero injured, including two or three policemen, who vere trying to quell the disturbance. A Republican meeting held at the corner of Market and Twen tieth streets, was the scene of a riot from the commencement.
