Tux Bearded Woman. We have had re
lated to us a part of the history of tl.e
'Dearded Woman," now traveling with
Wilson' Circus, which will perhaps bo
of interest to our readers. The home of her
girlhood was on a farm in Benton county,
a few miles from this city, where her stop
Yathcr, Mr. Tiecd, and her mother reside at
this time. There is also a family lesMing
in this city with whom she at one time lived
"in the capacity of a Ii.ue-ciaM. Some
years ago she married a mn at her home in
Benton cuuntr, and shortly afterward went
-with Jiim to California, where, in the curee
of time she became a mother shortly nfier
which event a luxuriant lcard appeared up
on her face. Soon af ervar l, as we under
rgv. her hu3b.ind died, und the 1 r ither of
ithe ske!etn km" who is with her at r.re
ent, secured her tu travel in connexion with
-rtho "skeleton" and other curiosities. Ti.ev
Went to New York, where her employer
.died ; and on his death-lied he made a will,
Heaving her his property (quite a fortune)
provided she would care for his unfortunate
lb$other o long as lie should live. This she
solemnly Towed to do, and has sacredly kept
her pledge ever since. As he ean neither
stand nor walk, but has to be carried from
place to place like a helpless infant, the na
fiart of this devoted sacrifice may be imag
ined. During the years that they have been
together they have exhibited themselves in
many countries, and have amaxsed quite a
handsome fortune ; and now, satined that
:the has secured a competenco for the rest
tof her life, and wearied of travel and the
hardships incident thereto, she has purchas
,cd a farm in Lane county, to which she will
retire with her helpless charge immediately
.after the State Fair.
Died. Wm. Usher, the youn man trho
wai bo badly hart at the Fair Ground last
Triday, died on Sunday at I w'clock r. m.
, Gentlemen who witnessed the accident state
that in the evening after the day's exercises
jhad closed, and when it ras quite dark, Ush
r and another young man were exercising
-their horses on the track, and while riding
;along at a rapid rate Mr. U's horse stum
bled and fell, crushing Jiim under it and
-rendering him insensible, an we stated last
week. Ho never regained consciousness
After the accident, Lut lay with his eyes
closed, breathing hard, like one in profound
sleep, nntil the end came. His grief-stricken
parents were sent for immediately after
tho accident, and remained at his couch un
til death stepped in andclirncd its victim.
His remains were taken charge of and con
veyed to his home for burial by tho Good
Tn;plrs pf etanon Lodge, of which body
he was. respected and consistent member.
And this part of he melancholy catastiophe
reminds u$ that a rumor was circulated, af
ter the accident, that yoqng Usher was un
der the influence of liquor at tho tirpe, which
was claimed to have caused his death. Kot
onty would the fact of his being a Good
Templar refute this base slander, but per
sons of unimpeachable veracity inform us
that, to their certain knowledge, this state
'merit is false.. "What can be said in denun
ciation of those who maliciously circulate
sech tn unfounded slander upon a follow
being, wben he is lying at death's portal,
awaiting jbe summons of the Pale Messen
ger, unable'to refute the base libel

Personal. Tho following gentlemen

Harper has been below to lay in goods. Mr.

such matters second to no Hrrn in that city.
Head their card in the I)e";kat. and send
them your orders. We have a personal ac

him to all those desiring anything in the
wholesale grocery line.
