rioRUBLs DtATO. Alvin Brock, whom

jppoaed, been thrown and kicked by a
horse, died on last Thursday morning be
Hmen!taDd2 o'clock: After ho was dis
cot erod, though he lingered sercral days, he
was apparently insensible, and was neTer
laill to explain bo manner in which he re
ceWed his wounds ; though it is generally
bol'ieted that while watering his horse at the
.well he had, wrapped the halter securely

bunds in drawing the water 5 after wa'cr.
Jflg the horse her, is supposed to hav started
towards the barn, and when about half way

horse became, frightened in some manner

frora the time the horse started to run until
Ihe was found in the pasture. Mr. B. had

that he died. -

changing and enlarging the premium in

demanded The offer of such liberal pre
intums for Fire Companies and Velocipedes
should be regarded as commendable and
enterprising, and will add greatly to the
jther attractions of the Fair. If the Board
were to g still further, as have some East-
'era Agricultural Societies, and offer prises
for the fattest babies, and the handsomest
irli, and the crosscst old maids, and the
i stingiest old bachelors, they would add still
greater facilities for bringing out the people.
These Fairs should ho more generally attend
ed and more liberally patronircd, as they
. are sure indication of the country's wea.th,
enterprise, prosperity and prductinns. Kv
crv farmer, mechanic and professional man

next Linn County Fair will be held on the

the 1st day of October.
PaIN'TIX TOE Ct BT ltOL'SS. At the last
meeting of the Commissioners' Court for
Linn county, an ordr was made to have the
court-house re-painted entire, from base to
pire the building proper to be painted a
drab or dun color, and the cupola to be paint
ed white. This is a good idea, and will re
fleet creditu pon the ofScialsorderingitdone.
Our Court House has too long presented a
black aad snbre appearance, and we are
only surprised that its mournful color was
not changed for an , aspect more cheering
' long ago. "Besides the building badly need
ed a new coat of paint to preserve it from
decay. Mi. Cun.diff is npw awaiting hids
from painters,' and as scon as the contract is
