Prexich Beer. We take pleasure in an
nouncing to the public that Metsrs. Keifer &
Roggcrs, of the Albany Brewery, took the
first premium on beer at the county Fair
last week. The Corvallis Brewery was rep
resented at the Pavilion, and, although its
beer was pronounced hya$ klost by the com

. Kattt. On last Wednesday Messrs. Tally
. & Anderson, of the 'Gem Saloon" in this I
city, tore away the ice-house in the rear of
their saloon, and made a "rat-killing bee"
on the occasion. They sent out invitations
and gathered together about twenty dogs,
and seventy-five men and boys armed with
.clubs, knives, stones and brick-bats ; and in
the space of an hour they had "slewed" six-
ty-eight rats enough to make a good square
.meal for all the Chinamen in the State.
Look out. The farmers of Oregon have
"just finished reaping a rich harvest, and arc
bringing it into town as fast as possible.
All kinds of business will, consequently, be
good tais fall,', and those of our merchants
who advertise liberally will get the cream of

this city, will soon arrive from San Francis-

There is good warrant for asserting that HOS
TETTKR'S BITTERS aro admirably adapted to
promote this end. Other tonics have their draw
backs. The concentrated extract of poisonous
vegetable substances, which within tho last few
years have been introduced into tbe practice of
medecino as iuvigorants, aro all extremely dan
gerous. Frnssie acid and strychnine, though of
ten given as strengthening medicines, nre not tnfe
even in the dirolautlvo docs ; and quinine disas
trously affects the nerves and the bones. But in
HOSTETTER'S BITTERS there is positively
nothing that ia not healthful and wholesome.
They contain no ingredient which by any process
could bo converted into active poison, and yat as
a constitutional stimulant are infinitely preferable
to any of the sulphates and acetates which have
been recently added to the materia medica.
