CONSTITI'TIONA L WEAKN IS.
It is a gresj thin to bare a sound and vigor
ous constitution. There is nothing that money
can buy ccmpnrablo in value to this best cift tf
nature. Ihe difference between the individual
who has it and the unfortunate who has it not, is
jut tho difference between the man who j;ot into
atlle clothed in defcnire armor and one who has
oibing to oi pose the sword ahd bullet but his
naked breast. "The pestilence that walketb in
darknesit, tbe sieknett that destroyeth at noonday,"
bite it lays low the man of feeble ttamiaa, is of.
ten conquered by the native strength cf what is
called an "iron constitution."
Heaven, however, has not endowed even a moie
y of mankind with this inetimable blessing, and
nd therefore it behooves those who have it not.
to resort to those most efficient means of constitu-
ional iuvijroration 'which science can supply.
There is good warrant for asserting that HOS
TETTKR'S BITTERS aro admirably adapted to
promote this end. Other tonics have their draw
backs. The concentrated extract of poisonous
vegetable substances, which within tho last few
years have been introduced into tbe practice of
medecino as iuvigorants, aro all extremely dan
gerous. Frnssie acid and strychnine, though of
ten given as strengthening medicines, nre not tnfe
even in the dirolautlvo docs ; and quinine disas
trously affects the nerves and the bones. But in
HOSTETTER'S BITTERS there is positively
nothing that ia not healthful and wholesome.
They contain no ingredient which by any process
could bo converted into active poison, and yat as
a constitutional stimulant are infinitely preferable
to any of the sulphates and acetates which have
been recently added to the materia medica.
The OovER!t wk!(t CocKTxnstcx. TBe coun-
terfciting of Hostettcr's Stomach Bitters is now a
somewhat more serious as well as difficult business
than it was a few years ago, each bottle of the
genuine article being authenticated by the official
indorsement of the United States Rcvcnuo De
partment in the form cf a stamp engraved on
steel, to counterfeit which is a felony. See, there
fore, that this Government Countersign, as well as
tho engraved label and note of hand of tbe pro.
prictors, is attached to the bottle. Tbe label I
embellished with a superb representation of St.
George on horseback, in the act of spearing the
Dragon, and underneath is a shield or escutcheon,
bearing a warning inscription, which counterfeit
ers are advised to road beforo they encounter the
penalty which it sets forth. Below this again is
Ilostetter A Smith's noto of hand, the signature
to which it would be rather a serious businoss to
forgo. If tbe public will look to these verifica
tions ot tbe genuineness of the article before they
purchase, they cannot be deceived. The proprie
tary label and Government stamp are both execu
ted on steel in the most elaborate stylo of bank
note engraving, and are probably the most expen
sive specimen of graphic art ever attached to any
medical preparation. - r ' ; ,

Gextlexbx : The watches manufactured by yon
have been in use on this Railroad for several years
by our engine-men, to whom we furnish watches
as part of our equipment. There are now some
Tbrbk Hcxdrid of them CAnaicn os orn Lias .
and we consider them GOOD AND RELIABLE
TIMEKEEPERS. Indeed. I have great satisfac
tion in saying YOCR WATCHES GIVE US
LESS TROUBLE, and have worn and do wear
much longer without repairs than any watches we
have ever had in use on this road. As yon are
aware, we formerly trusted to those of English
manufacture, of acknowledged good reputation,
but as a class they never ket time as correctly,
nor have they done as good service as yours.
In these statements I am sustained by my pred
ecessor, Mr. Lewis, whose experience extended
over a series of years. Respectfully,
EDWARD WILLIAMS.

Gehtlemex : I have no hesitation in saying
that I believe the great majority of locomotive en
gineers have found by experience that Waltbax
Watches abb tbb most satisfactory of any
for their uses. They run with tbb greatest
accuracy and .steadiness, notwithstanding the '
rough riiing of an engine, and, as I have sever
known one to wear opt, they must be durable.
I hope to see the time when railway companies
will generally adopt your watches, and furnish. -
them to all engineers and conductors. In my opin-
ion it would greatly tend to promote regularity
and safety. Yours respectfully, ?
