i . j SATURDAY ....JANUARY IS, 1S6S. The next Presidency and the South The St. Louis Democrat (Radical) seeing the -wreck to which its party is tending in tho Northern - States, is turning its attention toward tho South, in tho hope that the rotten Irorougirfie gro- suffrage states ?hi6K 1 are being' manufactured there, will .saYohe Radi cals from defeat in tho 1 ' Presidential election. It says : - 6 'Tho ten disorganized States aro voting. Louisiana and Alabama hayo elected Re publican ConTC.ntions. , Of the others, five or six will almost certainly do "thb same.' Probably eight States possibly morc will apply for admission at the next session of Congress, With newly organized Govern dent. Congress admits them. If. tho President vetoes, the act will bo passed over his veto. Members of the. House and Senate from those States will take seats. A , wilLbe pnsscd authorizing those States to vote for Presidential elect ors. Once admitted to the Union, thus -organized, no act of repeal can be passed, or if passed by ' a Democratic Ioase.Joc -would be stopped by a Republican Senate. As to those States, therefore, the decision will be final. The reconstruction will be completed. The negro question -will-be settled bv the enfranchisement ot all Icy al citizens. What can Democracy do about it? 13y what process can these States, once in, be got out again t How can the settlement, once made, be un made r Now, tho Democracy intend to carry enough of the Northern States to elect the Presidential ticket clean over the fraudulent and spurious Southern negro vote. The indications are that they will carry the following fetates; , r i . No. of Electors New York ..... 33 7 Connecticut.. 8 3 Delaware-... Pennsylvania Maryland h io Indiana- Illinois.. ..... 24 7 21 13 16 11 Kentucky XLs so tri California . Oregon J.. -3 ... 4 ... 3 Nebraska . Minnesota Neoada 3 167 This is a majority of twenty in the electoral college, coanting in all the bogus votes that ncay be obtained at the bouth .by military violence and usurpation The chances, however, are that we wil xarry other States- not; included In I'thc above estimate, tor tbe people are rcsolv cd to have a change of rAdniioistra in this country EySTesident and a Democratic House of Representatives to sustain him. which will be elected at the same time, it will not take long to undo ome of the atrocious legislation of the 'Hump Congress. The military Vill " cot be used to control elections in the South. They will be either drawn from there, or be only used for the purpose of. preserv ing order. When this military pressure i3 removed, that now bears so hard upon ,the Sonth, they will spon Lave, instead,a representation based upon white suffrage alone. : We beg leave to assure the Demo crat ' that thare will be no nero voting for any length of time in any Southern, Middle or Western State. The people will not permit it. There is not a State, outside of New England, with the excep tion, perhaps, of Kansas or. Iowa, that is not against it. it has only been foisted "noon the people by the acts of a., small minority. The Radicals may'go' on and complete thair rascally sehemes to. per petuate their power, which they call Southern reconstruction ; bnt it will not jstand- It is a miserable and rickety po lltical structure, and will ; Boon topple down by its own weight. The distinc tions, founded upon color and race, made by the Almighty for some great and wise purpose, and which have been recognized j.n all natiots and in all ages, can not y;be brokea down by a tew madmen and party demagogues in a tew years. I saturated a little ootton batting, first winding a waxed thread around the wound, and applied the Pain 'Killer, saturating the bandage two or throe times a , day In fire minutes the paiu coated, aud in a week it entirely beaied up; and l will say eh at I ntver aeeu anything for, healing qualities . that equalled it, and i would earnestly recommeud it to tbe pub no as a pun kuler and a healer.. 1 Yours truly, - R.
