DEMOCRATIC CLUB I
THERE WILL BE A MEETING OF Tn E

Democratic principles are at stake, and the stake
is worth playing for ! Oregon must go Democratic

-01d Linn" is a host within herself!
."We would respectfully suggest that Dmocratlo

ready to meet the enemy and contest the field over

Bixocratic Clcb. We trust there will be
ti full meeting at the Court House to-night.
The'Jcitraa?, noticing the call, $ayt : "Ore
gon veoutd get rather sick of Democratic
principles if she got a full dose of them."
TYe tuiTer from the Journal. We axe not in
the least afraid to have Oregon test Demo
cratic winci plea njrain. Under Democratic
a
rule Oregon was happy and prosperous, and
she will be so again. It is not Democrats,
lut Iladicals Who believe in Nigger Suffrage
and Nigger Equality ; it is the Radicals who
vroull pay the people shinplasters and the
bondocrata gold? it is the Radicals who be
lieve in a Protective Tariff who rob Peter to
pay Paulwho, while they put $1 into one
of the pockets of the consumer and wool
jjrower, take $100 out of the other pocket.
It is the Radical leaders wh have made
themselves rich by the exigencies and neces
cities of the War and by plundering the Gov
ernment. They are they who, in the name
of "Liberty" and "loilty," have mobbed
leucratic editors, and robbed and impris
oned men guilty of no crime whatever, with
out law and in direct conflict with the plain
est provisions of the federal Constitution.
They are they who are full of hypocrisy and
deceit, and are like whited sepulchres full
; of rottenness and dead men's bones. If the
people of Oregon will show that they prefer
such a party to the gro3, old, honest, sterling
DemC'cratic party, we will emigrate to the
Sandwich Islands or the North Pule ; and
finding Sytnme's hole, we will crawl in and
pull it in after us.
vhsistx is. e suppose we neea not in
form our adult readers that Christmas is ap
proaching. " Heads of families are well
aware of this fact: the junior members,
from the prattling infant to those of more
mature years haTe reminded them of that,
Jong ago.
.Christmas is popularly supposed to be the
day in which our Savior was born ; but there
js no conclusive evidence of this ; and there
are many strong proofs that the twenty-fifth
of December is not his birth-day. But it is
. all right that it should be a holiday. It is
a day which, to most people, is hallowed by
pleasing and sacred associations; and we
avould not for the world have it struck from
the lut of national holidays. Long may it
.contir.ae to be a day of mirth, and joy. Let
-parents and friends observe, as usual, the
time-honored customs of Christmas day
ihe pleasant surprises, the gifts of regard
jand affection which, though intrinsically
valueless are invaluable because bestowed by
those endeared to each other by the strong
ties of love and consanguinity.
Medical Journal. We. have before us
a late number of a work of this title, edited
And puplished by J. C. Shelton, M. D., Sa
lem, Oregon. The editor says he will " ex
pose the medical fallacies and impositions
practiced upon an - unsuspecting people by
the regular profession in relation to the na
tare and character of their agents and treat
ment of disease." Good. Give 'em fits
Doctor ; but be careful while running a-
muck you don't get hurt yourself.
Haeeisbcrg. The recent rise in the riv
er, we learn, has carried away the main dam
of the Harrisburg flouring mills. A slough
of the river is dammed, and the water taken
a mile in a ditch to the mills. . The slough
dam being destroyed the mills will lose the
whole season's work, as it cannot be repair
ed until next summer.
Chkistmas Tots. Those wanting to pur
chase presents for the little folks will find a
very good assortment of Christmas toys at
Hiltabiddel & Co's. They have all sorts and
sizes of dolls) horses, dogs, whistles, horns,
drums, china tea setts stoves, &c.t &c In
act they are too numerous to mention. ,

Thje Festival. We understand that the
Jood.lWplars' Festival, held at Parrish's
.jj.au, last xuesoay evening, was weiiattena
( ed,: and that it passed off very pleasantly i to
; all cencerned. The speech delivered by Gov.

That FicnT. Tho Salem Record, in no
ticing the hostile domonstations of "two col
ored citiicna of Albany," makes several
grave mistakes. First, the two niggers afore
said didn't fight at all : that is, they didn't
corrte to blows j consequently they did not
"fit and fit" while u tho whole town" was
admiring. One nigger drew his revolver
cocked and brought it to bear on tho other
whereupon the Marshal arrested tho revolver
nigger and the Recorder fined him and made
him pay costs. The second n lUakeour Salem
co temporary makes is in stating that all this
occurred "under Democratic rule." It all
transpired under Radical rule the old sot
of ofScers not having yet retired. They havo
had hold of the publio teat hero so long that
it nearly kills them to let go. They forcibly
remind us of a big, overgrown hungry Dur
ham calf sucking tho more you pull and
beat him over tho head the further ho thrusts
his nose into his dam's udder, the more fierce
ly he bunts, and the more angrily he lashes
his sides with his caudal appendage We
will let them swig away a little whilo longer;
but they will ultimately have to "git up and
git," and no mistake The Democracy of
Albany have won tho day fairly, and they
will havo the honors and emoluments conse
quent upon their victory, or they will "have
hair," and wado in mud up to their arm
pits !
Rotary-Incline Power. Mr. Chas. F.
Gay, of this place, has invented a propelling
power bearing the above name, which is cer
tuinly a decided improvement on some other
models of horse-power. The rnachino ap
pears to be cheap, simple and durable, and
certainly requires less labor in propelling it
than any similar invention in the country.
Mr. Gay this week started a model of his cn
terpriso East for the purpose of procuring a
patent, and has also engaged Mr. Cherry, of
the Albany Foundry, to construct a full-sized
machine for a practical experiment of his
invention. We hope it will prove a sue
cess.
Dead. We regret to learn that Andrew
M. Smith, late of Linn county, departed
tins life on tne loth instant. -Mr. Js. was
an old resident of Oregon, and was respect
ed and beloved by a largo circle of friends
and acquaintances.
Welcome. It may not be generally known
that visitors tn the College are always wcl
come during school hours ; but the exercises
on Friday afternoon, of each week, are gen
erally more interesting than those of any
other day.
tSyIf you want agwl job of painting
done, Wadtfworth can fill the bill. We have
seen specimens of his work that reflect much
credit ou him as an artist.
Licenses. The City authorities last week
issued liquor licenses to sundry parties in
Albany, amounting in the aggregate to $C00.

THE PAIN KILLER
Manufactured by Perry Davis A Sou has won
for iuelf a n-putation unrurpaed in the bbtory
of tnediral prt-parattons. It U as well known in
the trading port of India and China as in New
York aod Cincinnati; and its continually inerea
ing demand, where it has been longcti known, is
one of its strongest reomt&cndations audbest ad
rertuctucnt. It began to be favorsbly koowu in
A I. IHZ'J, and ha ever uce been gradually
growing Into public favor, tul in thousands ol
families it bos come to be comidered an article of
such necessity that they are sever without a sup.
ply of it to resort to in case of accident or sudden
illness. It is not unfrciucnt!y said of it s "We
would as sooa tLiuk of doing wilbout flour in tho
house as without PAIN KILLER.
It gives immediate relief in cao of m scald or
burn, as well as in the sudden attack of a iiar
rbuea, Dysentery, or similar affection of tho bow.
els; and, being an entirely vegetable preparation,
is as safe as it u reliable. Tho promptneas and
certainty with which it acts in relieving ail kinds
of pain, makes it worthy its name
PAIN KILLER,
A name easily understood, and not easily for
gotten. In Cholera it has been eminently success
ful, curing hundreds of the severest cases; and
never, to our knowledge, having failed in a single
instance when it was used according to directions
in the earlier stages of the disease.
No medicine has been more successful iu curing
Fever and Ague, and other diseases incident to
nee tern and .Southern climaU. For Cold, it is
almost a specific. Rbcumatio.and Neuralgic Af
fections give way to it when all other remedies
have failed. It is eminently a Family Medicise.
and by being kept ready for immediate resort in
cases of accident or sudden attack of disease, has
saved many hours of suffering, and many a dollar
in time ana doctors mis.
We continue to prepare oar
PAIN KILLER
From the best and purest materials, and with
care that insures the most perfect uniformity in
me mcui".iue.
Tho reputation of the Pain Killer has suffered
more or less from numerous counterfeits and imi
tations, that have been issued from time to time,
many or tnein well calculated to deceive ; promis
ing to cure diseases for which the Pain Killer is
intended ; while they contain few if any properties
in ctuimon witn it, ana are generally entirely
worthless. These become so numerous that, in
1854, to protect the publio and ourselves, we went
to a heavy expense in procuring finely engraved
steel plates for our labels ; altering, at the samo
time, the sbapo of our bottles from Octagon to fiat
panel, with "Davis' Vegetable Pain Killer" blown
in the glass. On ono side of each bottle is a finely
engraved likeness of Perry Davis, tho inventor of
the medicine ; on the other side of each is our note
of hand, as finely engraved, to counterfeit which
is held to bo forgery by the laws of the United
States. To tne name of our medicine,
"PAIN KILLER,"
Which is our trade mark, we have the exclusive
right, which we hare never failed to sustain in
law, in any of the numerous action! brought
against parties putting up or selling articles under
that name, or one so similar as to mislead the
public. We would caution the publio against all
imitation of our preparation, either in name or
style of putting up, Tho Pain Killer is sold
wholesale by Druggists and Medicine dealers in
the principal cities, and retailed by Druggists,
Apothecaries, and at variety shops generally
throughout the United States and British Provin
ces ; also, by druggists and commission merchants
at most of the foreign ports with which the United
States bold commercial relations.
The Pain K tiler Nobtiiamptov, Mar.
11, 1867. Meturt. Perry Davit & Son: Dear
Sirs I wish to add to your numerous testimonials.
Last September I was at Work cutting sole leather
with a die and a heavy iron mallet. I made a
misstrike, and the mallet came down with its
whole force upon my thumb, splitting it from the
first joint entirely open, and laid the bone bare.
I supposed 1 had ruined my thumb forever, but I
thought of your Paiu Killer, aud went about a half
a mile and obtained a bottle. I saturated a little
cotton battin?, first winding a waxed thread
around the wound, and applied the Pain Killer,
saturating the bandage two or three times a day.
In five minutes the pain ceased, and in a week it
entirely healed up, and I will say eh at I never
seeu anythiug for healing qualities that equalled
it, and I would earnestly recommeud it to the pub
lic as a pain killer and a healer. ,
Yours truly, lv. T. Clxtlis.
