Tt is a faithful delineation of our Govern
ment from its formation down to the pres
ent time. Tt is true, the picture presents
no very encouraging hopo for the perpet
uation of the Government instituted by
our fathers. It shows appalling errors
have been perpetrated, but it was not
charged to cny political party. IJut the
republicans felt their party was responsi

country and they could not conceal the

When the day arrived, all these who
had stood out and pretended to oppose itJ
to keep from contributing anythinir. came
and had their little souls pierced with the
good old rusty truths taken from the Dec
laration of Independence,' and the rub
bish of the Constitution, nnd their empty
stomachs distended to a frightful extent
with '-Scab Sheep". and other fixings, that
for a short time produced strange and dis
tressing symptoms, which have passed
away, leaving the conviction that hereaf
