School Examination. There will bo an
examination of the pupils of the District
School of Albany, 'on next Friday. The
patrons of thft school and the, public ro ini
ited to attend.
We hope this invitation will U accepted
Tore geuerally than is the ease on similar
occasions. Parents and children arc, as a
general fact, not enough interested in such
matters. They pay money freely for tui
tion, for the building of school-houses, and
for boots for their children ; but beyond this
seldom or never yentutft, Thr seem to re;
gard the schoolroom a; a $or.,' of 6nctum
sanctotuny-a d of Holy of Holies into
which it is sacrilege for them to enter. This
is all wrong. They should aid the teacher
in every way possible. Mouey is good, but
it is not ail that teachers need. Parents
should co-operate with the teacher in govern
ment, and encourage him in every other sui
table way, that is, if he is a good one ; and
if he is no, the sooner hes is discharged the.
bc.tte.r for them, and their children. Parents
should bo present on school-exhibition days,
to 6C.Q ishai advancement, if any, lifts been
made by th pupils; and if there is anything
wrong, either, in sode, of tfacln;; cr, n
he government of the school try and hare
it rectified. Teachers of spnsc, and experi
ence, are not half as opinionated and dog
patical as many imagine. A teacher pos
sessing good, hard horse-sense, wants his
errors as to teaching and government point
ed out, so that he may rectify them and thus
perfect himself in his vocation. We hope
to see a good attendance, on the part of pa
rents and others, during the forthcoming ex
amination. ii

ll ERTY'S Medical and Surgical Institute is be
Totnicg a sice qua non to the welfare of our State
and health of our citizens; and his rapidly spread
ing reputation, although it may excite surprise, is
but the signal of skill, and follows as the natural
effect of uch a cause. We are personally acquaint
ed with gentlemen who have suffered foryears un
der chronic disease, and who had taken advant
age of every available means that promised relief,
but without success, until they called upon Dr.
Doherty, who, in an incredibly sLort space of time
has given them entire relief. It is gratifying to
announce this fact, because the Do. tor is a gen
tleman who seeks, not by defamation of others, to
establL-h his rcpuiatku, or to rear the superstruc
tfire of hi iiu uj"oi the ruin of an another's fame.
The Doctor conducts bis Institute in such a man;
ner that must be gratifying to all his patients.
He examines, advises and recommends without
eharge, and the patient, after bearing bis terms
for treatment, can accept or reject at pleasure. In
no case does the Doctor make a charge unless he
effects a cure. This he is able to do, because he
feels the confidence wbich long experience has giv
en, and no doubt the consolation which appertains
to that confi Jence. Persons afflicted with either
accute or chronic diseases, would do well ' to con
sult him. For consultation he asks no fte, nor
do-s he insist on obedience to his advice unless the
patient placee hijiisJf under bis care. His offices
are on acraruduto street, opposite itiv Pacific Mail
Steamship office. S. F. Xens.
