"NVe find the following in the Oregonian of 3Iondaj : On the 31st of August n grand barbacuc was given at Louisiana, Missouri, to tho re turned soldiers of Ptkccountv. Missouri, and Pike county, Illinois. Speeches were tnnde by several persons. Hon. J. II. I). Hender son of this State was present. Tho corres pondent of the St. Louis Democrat thus speaks of him : 'Mr. Henderson, of Orpomn. rocontlv elected member of Congress from that State, was then introduced, and endorsed the rad ical party of Missouri, pledging himself to stand by them. He indicated by his speech that he is the man." Mr. Henderson then stands committed to the cause and policy of tho Radicals. They oppose the " reconstruction" plan of resident Johnson, and are in favor of Negro Suffrage. Mr. Henderson is the Representative from Oregon, elected by the Abolition party, and is the author- zed, selected exponent of their views and sentiments. He openly, iu public mass meeting, announces .himself as a Radical, and is pledged to their policy The Abolition organs of Oregon de clare that they favor and will sustain the policy of President Johnson, and also that they are opposed to Negro Suffrage. Thus, we have on one hand, their chosen popular exponent pledged to the cause of the Radicals, and consequently opposed to President Johnson and his course; and on the other hand, the organs of the party in this State opposed to the Radi cals, and supporting tlus policy of the President. Which are we to look upon as the rel simon pure the State organs, who speak without actual authority for their party, or Representative Heuder son, who stands their chosen, authorized mouthpiece? A party is known by its acts and fruits, In the canvass last year. it. is notorious that Mr. Henderson on the stump openly avowed his Negro Equality, Radical sentiments. He eren went to the length of saying that he would not condemn marriages between the whites and blacks, although "should hi3 own i wife die, he should marry again, and be lieved as he had married white women twice already, he would marry a white man again." lie contended that ne groes were better qualified to vote than many of the " low Irish and Dutch," and went to the full extreme of Radicalism in the cause of the negro. We contend therefore that the Abolitiop party of Ore gon, in the election of Mr. Henderson, committed itself to the Radical cause, and they are pledged to it just as he pledged himself to it ia his Missouri speech in August lasi. It is the policy of the organs of the party now because Negro Suffrage is growing unpopular in the State, and be cause the party has got aboard more " nigger" than it can carry to deceive the people in this respect, and seek to coavinee them that it is not the inten tion of the Aholitionist3 to give, the ne groes the right of suffrage. But they simply protest iflt mere Trords their acts prove beyond cavil or doubt that they do ireally favor that .measure, aud, if the power to put it into operation were theirs, it would be- enforced, Henderson has authoritatively spoken for the party, and stands pkdged to the Radicals. The Democratic Ticket in New York. An extract from an Albany let ter to the New York Day Book, which will he found on the outside of this paper, wiU pretty well inform our readers of the character of the " Democratic" ticket in New York, but this paragraph additional, taken from the Tribune, will give further light as to the candidate in question : E. O. Perrin, who was put up for Clerk of Appeals, was a little the most rancorous Awti foujoic rvuow xoinmein mese pans inrouea- out tbe hey-day of the Dark Lantern persua sion. He wiil run tu the better among the Irish Roman -Catholic who must giTe him the greater number of votes. They wouldn't be sure the ticket was " reg'lar " if they did not recognize eome one on it as a xvnow XothiDg. And to cap the climax, we see by the telegraphic despatches of the present week that a the ratification meeting to endorse the same Democratic ticket, Montgomery Blair, almost a life-long Abolitionist, was one of the speakers. Strange Democracy, that which a Blair would endorse. We want nose of it in Oregon. A Wholesale Poisoner. The Pennsyl vania papers tell ef a Mrs. Martha Grinder of Alleghany, in that State, now in custody, charged with having poisoned about a half- doten persons oil of whom died from the effects of her doses. Among her victims were a Mrs. Caruthers, a Mrs. Hutchiruon, and a servant girl who lived with lie charm ing Grinder. . Her object appears to have been money, and yet she could have only ob tained very small amounts from some of her victims, one was-a member ot the .Metho dist Church, but did not possess the conn dence of the members, and withdrew from it. Her case presents a most startling il lustration of the wickedness of the human heart. Newsp ape Changes. Wm. H. Newell, late of the Dalles Mountaineer, has purchased the Walla Walla Statesman, and Henry Miller, formerly of , the Oregonaan, is editor of the Mountaineer. We tender the courte sies of the craft to these gentlemen. Yistcocs VR.ojrr. Seventeen divorces were granted in u single county in Vermont, a Bhort time apj, of which nine were cases of desertion and eight for adultery, ihe wives were the einrers in four of the latter cases. ; Wooles Factory.- The citizens of Jack son and Josephine counties are likely to join in he evection of a Woolen Factory in that section. The Reporter presents strong ar guments in favor ot the project. Live Stock. A great many cattle and sheep are being sent from Portland, across the country to Pnget Sound, for the Yiejtoria marct. Freiuht rou Scio. Three prairio schoon ers were freighted at Couch s wharf yester day for the above destination, at $1 per tot). Scio is a shoot in the heart of a rebel district. about sixty miles south of Portland. The shipments yesterday were mostly constitut ing hardware. AVe clip the above paragraph from the Oregonian of last Wednesday. Tho fling which that pnper makes at the Scio com munity will in nowise affect them, while it displays the meanness of that paper. Scio is, we rejoice to say, an impregnable Democrat ic stronghold, and the Democrats there are among the truest and best in the country. It is a flourishing, peaceful community, and if tho merchants of Portland approve the spirit of the Orcgonian's mean fling at the Scio merchants or fanners, tho latter can readily find another market from which to purchase their heavy supplies. If to be Democrats is to be rebels, tho Soioaus are proud of the title. New Mail Roctb. The Postmaster Gen eral invites proposals for carrying the mail weekly or semi-weekly between Albany and Eugene City, by way of "Peoria, Burlington, Harrisburg, and Willamette Forks, to Eu gene City." This is a step in the right di rection ; nut we observe mat, n tne mail is to be carried weekly, the same blunderin style which now characterizes the mail car riage between here and Willamette Forks will be persisted in that of departing from Albany on Thursday, and from Eugene on Friday mornings. The mail ought to leave here on . Monday. To do so it would greatly add to the accommodation of all along the route. If the citizens of Peoria, Harrisburg, and other points on the line petition for a change of day, in case only a weekly mail shall be let, there is little doubt their request would be granted. M. E. Tho steamer Orizaba, Captain Barns, has been seized by Collector Adams, for a violation of the revenue laws, in taking freight from the steamer Active Uelow As toria, wjtU the latter was on her way from Victoria to Portland. Burns and his mate were also compelled to give bonds for $15,000 each for their appearance to answer the charge founded upon the viola tion of the laws included in the above trans action. Didn't "Maintain llis Composure." The following story ia told in a San Francisco pa per of a scene occasioned by the lato severe earthquake there : At one of the churches, when the first shock came, many people got up to leave, when the minister, thinking it was all over, raised hw hands and solemnly ejaculated : " Maintain your composure, brethren, God will protect you on land and sea." At that instant, however, the second " double and twister" came, and the Rev. gentleman ejac ulated : i" My Lord 1" cleared the pulpit at one bound and was among the first of the flock out f the fold. EmGtaKTS Suffering. Some emigrants lately arrived at the Dalies are in a destitute condition, We have hezrd of others in a like condition at Portland and in this Valley, but generally this year's emigration have come across the plains in much better than ordinary eondition.
