Oar farmers and 1'rttU grower, stock raisvrs, ami all others interested, will bear in mi ml that the Eighth Annnal Fair of the Linn County Agricultural Society, will be held at Boston, on the ea?t fide of the Calapooia, on Tuesday, the 19th, and Wednesday, the 20th of September en suing. Only about three weeks therefore are jsiven in which to prepare for the Fair. "We sincerely hope this time will be well applied, bo that the coming Fair shall excel any of its predecessors. The farmers arid all the citiiensof Linn coun ty have - good cause to b proud of this county institution. If we mistake not it is the oldest organired Society of the kind in the State, and it has beeu foster t ed and supported better than any other. It wa the ' common remade of all who attended the Fair at Boston last Fall and also at the State Vir at Salem, that, in everything to intcrsst the agriculturalist, to promote the rood of the State in a practical point of view, and to plcuse the Spectators, the Linu County Fair far sur passed its more pretentious rival. Then let our citizens exert themselves this 4 .. year t even outdo their etTorts of last ye:vr . 7y a do it will they not take a pnue jriu pi?a.-nre in uoing ;i ; c predict th.ii y will. Linn county is the largest and best agricultural county ia Oregon, and the wealthiest. As she excels all others in soil, abundance and substantial wealth, let her also have tvc her motto in the matter of her Agricul taral Fair the proud word Excelsior." The huies will handsomely contribute in their own chosen and appropriate ways to make the Fair a grand sucee:?. we may le sure. It would then be a shame for tlw men to lag in their efforts.. rROTEtTlOX FOK THS Valley Uoad. By a lettor from Col. It is addressed tons, and wo cannot conjecture how our eoteuipornry first got hold of it. Hut we thank '.him for giving it to us in primed form, for it is inudi easier read that way vh:n in the MS. The letter may be termed biographical in style, but we regret to sny it is not no nhle pro duetion. This may be owing to its almost total want of original matter it being ipiitc entirely compiled from some of the ery flat tering notices of us which have at one time and another appeared in the columns ,, some of our cotcnipovarics. Our ardent ad mirer has, in out? or two instances, essayed the telling of some pretty anecdotes about us, which we have never seen nor heard of be fore, but it is in these particularly that wo are constrained to withold that meed of high praise which we would ever prefer to accord to our loved and loving friend. We regret to say that Ids letter is faulty in many par ticulars. lh certainly could not have dis played Ids accustomed zeal and industry in his compilation,, for he has omitted quite a number of the most delightful stories over in vented upon us. Then, there is uo rich hu mor in the letter indeed, it is drj reading throughout, .and our friend is known to lo " such 11 funny fellow.' tint perhaps the greatest imperfection in his sketches is, the absolute absence of that peculiar suit in them, with which even writers of fiction umuiIIv season their works wo moan Truth.
