A llarrt Case.
A correspondent of fiu Roseburg Plain
(Isitler, writing from Oakland under date ot
February 2nd -'sets up" a party formerly
well known in this city: It Is currently
reported and generally believed that J. D
Mcl- . ol this precinct, is a nara case.
The evidence is based on much of his his
tory since he was county Judge of Bake
county. It is said that he came to Rose
hurg and played the confidence game lint I
he had succeeded in duping several mem
hers of the Slasonic fraternity out of sums
ranging from 23 cents to one hundred dol
lars, and then sloped, lliese parties au-ve.-tised
him. He again found pastures
green in and about Oakland, aud the great
est ot his dupes is said to be a poor wid
owed lady, whom ne not only swinu:eu out
flier wash bill, but also something vastly
iiio-e precious to a woman. She is now a
new mother, and it is said that J. D. boasts
of his accomplishment in that direction. It
is also said the matter will be investigated
bv the next grand jury.
